Right now the American is as good as the Big 12. The only difference is the money. Memphis and other fine universities have spent countless time and money on trying to get into a conference who has a questionable future itself. It looks like the American could take some of these other schools and force the issue with ESPN, etc. I personally would enjoy adding BYU, Boise, Army, Colorado State or whoever to force this issue. Then Memphis could take all that money that FedEx has pledged and improve their academics and athletics. That is just my take. I would rather be on the offensive than beg for scraps from the likes of Texas.
So you want to bring back the WAC?

Does any team in the American have its own network?
It won't be expansion in the truest sense of the word, but when UH and UC leave for the Big 12, the teams named would be among those considered as replacements.
"All that money" is not ours to use

While this IS a very odd year for the Big 12, they just cut checks for $30 million dollars per school for last year... that's PER SCHOOL!!! Which is about what the AAC made, the WHOLE AAC!!?!! Some Big 12 schools made more than that!

Yeah, I see absolutely no reason we should try and get into the Big 12. Oh wait, there's roughly 27 MILLION reasons!!!

The fact that the Big 12 is down is great!!! Gives us a much better chance of going in next year and establishing ourselves as one of the top programs.

The money that FedEx "pledged" is actually money that FedEx is willing to spend on naming rights to The Big 12 Championship Game and sponsorship of other sports. That will include a massive amount of branding and advertising. The FedEx money is not a donation.
Play a tough schedule, win and they'll come calling, ask Miami and lewisville
Glad to see everyone being so open minded...lol.
there's only 1 program that if we lost them, it would destroy the conference. And that's UCONN. All others are disposable just as we are and easily replaced with the right program. But if and when we lose 2 teams, you go get Northern Illinois. And then as we slowly get poached, the American needs to take a state school approach for replacements:

UMASS
Arkansas State
Georgia State
Texas State
South Carolina State
Missouri State
South Dakota State
Utah State
NM state
NM
Nevada
Colorado state

If we are ever going to be a true challenger brand type of conference we are going to have to start adding state schools.
Yeah.

The American isn't destroyed if UCONN leaves.

Just saying.

If it were about basketball it would be arguably true. The fill in teams would probably come from CUSA rather than out west. Travel would be too expensive with the small amount of money the teams would get.
Throw everyone curve after curve after curve...till no one knows
what's on our mind. People think we're dead in the water anyway.

Pretend to expand...fly test balloons. Do something.

I dunno why we just sit around waiting for Godot.

Buy ads, launch a campaign. Change the perception of people who matter.
lol.
Nothing happens...nobody comes...nobody goes. It's awful.

UMASS - No
Arkansas State - No
Georgia State - No
Texas State - You've got to be joking
South Carolina State - See Texas State
Missouri State - See Texas State
South Dakota State - See Texas State
Utah State - No
NM state - No
NM - No
Nevada - No
Colorado State - Only one I'd consider

Don't let's do anything. It's safer.

Is Memphis a state school?

Add Boise St, BYU, Colorado St, and SDSU then DEMAND to be P6 or threaten to go NUCLEAR. There is no rational argument that could be made for keeping that 16-team conference out of the group of blessed conferences. Maybe, add Army and Air Force for political purposes and go with 18 teams - two 9-team divisions for football and basketball, and three 6-team pods for non-revenue sports.

How do you say no to that much football power and the 3 service academies without major backlash? Sure with 18 teams, the per-team payout is reduced, but would still be a lot more than what these schools are getting now. Go for it!!!
