Attended last nights game with my wife and some friends, and sat with a good crowd of people from my town, which is in the middle of CMU territory, so mostly we were in the minority, but we had a few Broncos, and we are louder that the rest put together. In short, this was one of the most enjoyable games ever.
I will give CMU a lot of credit. They packed that stadium full, and it was a great crowd and student section. The environment was what college football should be. Fans from each side treated one another respectfully, and it was a lot of fun; albeit far more fun for wmu folks.
Although Mt Pleasant is nothing to look at, it was amazing how smooth we were able to stroll in a few hours before the game, eat at BWW and watch football games before our game, just leave our car parked at the restaurant, and walk to the game. After the game it was an easy walk back, and drove out of there with ease.
WMU looks not just good, but composed. I think the team is selfless too. Ego doesn't control our players, and they really seem to circle the wagon with every circumstance.
The season is long, and far from over, but it really feels special so far. For all the criticism of fleck, and acknowledging that he is unconventional to say the least, the guy came into this job with a vision, and even through the initial turbulence of a bad first year, he has stuck with the plan, even if modifying things a bit while learning on the fly. He understands college football on a level that few do; including many of the most promenent coaches at big successful programs, who are able to win a lot do to the size of there program.
It is not easy to do what we have been doing this year as a MAC team. Let's take nothing for granted, but appreciate what we have. This is FUN!
