G5 Game of the Week
Eliminate the penalties and run the ball a bit more than we have been doing, and we win.

WMU scares me this season but you are correct. If we can play up to our potential we should win this one!

I saw where you guys lead the conference in offensive plays per game (82). That's lightning fast. Troy is in second place (78) but that's our MO. One of the advantages you had the last two seasons was being the ball control bully on the block. It keeps your defense fresh and their offense off the field. Over the last two or three years, it looks as though you're slowly getting away from traditional Georgia Southern style football. Once you assimilate and become one of us, you might lose the advantage you once had. 04-coffee

That said, WMU is a good football squad and likely gets its revenge this weekend.

Not really sure you're seeing the whole picture here. Our defense is forcing a lot of quick punts. We are #10 in the nation in defensive 3rd Down Conversion at 22%. So our offense just has the ball in their hands longer than we have the last two seasons. Hence the stats below. We are running slightly faster than the past, but we are also having to sustain longer drives because we aren't getting explosive plays.

2014 - TOP #17 32:16 / game
2015 - TOP #4 33:56 / game

We also lead in ToP and Opponent 3rd Down Conversions.

It's not so much that we're running a high tempo, it's just that opposing offenses aren't staying on the field so we have a lot of time to run plays.

Also more penalties adding more plays.
All fair points. Thanks for the clarifications. Good luck this weekend and bring home a "W" for the SBC.

And guess what, if your defense plays well enough, WMU's defense is going to be really, really, really tired by the 4th quarter.

I really think I am as pumped for Southern this week as I was for App - Miami last week solely based on the fact that regardless of how bad Southern beat any MAC team last season, the MAC was always mentioned as being better than the Belt.
Welp I guess this is why you play the games because I have yet to see one prediction that has us winning.

If we play like we have been on O we don't win. Defense will keep us in it but if we have over a football field in penalties again it will be a bad day.
For what it's worth, I'm guessing that Georgia Southern will win this game and that's coming from a WMU Alum/fan.
WMU also runs an O that focuses on time of possession. A turnover or two might be the difference. I'll go 34-31 GaSo.

For those visiting, enjoy Kalamazoo.

Not very confident heading into this game. 100 yards a game in penalties and blocking has been sub par. We still have a team speed advantage, but without the blocking we've been forced to sustain longer drives that are more likely to stall. (See: penalties)

I hope we can pull out the W, but this is a long trip against a team looking for revenge.

Go Eagles!

I'll be surprised if this game is close. Unless there's a lot of improvement on GS offense it could get ugly.

After the dismal performance at WVU to start last season, I thought we would get our teeth kicked in by Western the next week. I was pleasantly shocked.

I don't see getting shocked two years in a row. I think our D is good enough to keep it reasonably close...hopefully.
An hour away. Our radio crew is talking about how inadequate the press box facilities are

Saw a picture of their stadium....I'm not surprised. The game at Akron may be 30-38% filled.
Big hit on the off tackle run, good start for Southern.
5 yard gain on third down after a dropped pass on second, Southern O to get the ball.
Not sure how I feel about whatever is happening on the shoulders of WMUs jerseys. I'd imagine that it's the type of uniform that Derek Zoolander would be a fan of.
