A lot of the previously mentioned construction items are up for approval as well as various hospital renovation projects. On the athletics side, the softball stadium renovation is up for final approval so hiring a contractor for that work should happen in the near future.

There's also a UAB bond issue up for approval (assumedly to pay for all the construction) along with proposals for new degrees.
Any word on finishing the soccer stadium? Hopefully that will happen after this season. No real concession stand (drinks, chips, and candy only) and porta potties kinda stinks, literally.

Bring back the food truck UAB, at least until the new grandstand is built. College soccer fans get hungry.

Or at least allow fans to bring in outside food.
The track would be my biggest concern... y'all do know we have a track team with no facility now, right?

If Birmingham gets a USL team as expected, there is a chance they will play at UAB and help upgrade the facility.

2nd phase of Soccer Field to be completed next Fall.

Before or after next season? Actually, I guess it could occur during since this phase doesn't involve the playing surface. Does anyone know if an upgraded scoreboard similar to baseball/softball is part of the plan?

Yes both could play on a field of that size.

Neither the NCAA nor FIFA/MLS/NASL/USL have set field dimensions.

Pro Soccer requires fields with ranges of 70-80 yards wide x 110-120 yards long.

College Soccer requires fields with ranges of 70-75 yards wide x 115-120 yards long.

Next rung up within the same company is a full-on Hilton, and Birmingham's only Hilton (on 280) was just bought in August and will be switched to a DoubleTree... http://www.bizjournals.com/birmingham/ne...anded.html

Yes, the article in the Tuscaloosa News mentions it will become a Hilton.

That article says UAB EF will invest between $14-$20M in renovations.

Also, the BOT approved a $130M bond issue to pay for a lot of the capital projects.
We have an athletic fundraising foundation.
We have a real football facility being built.
Now we have bonds issued for capital projects at UAB... another #FreeUAB hurdle crossed.

Yep. I would think more bonds will be on the way in coming years to pay for other capital projects. I know there's two new research buildings, a new employee parking deck, and school of medicine office building that are in the planning stages, but haven't made it to the BOT yet.

As long as they're getting a real track this time, I wouldn't think they'd mind too much. From a few past track athletes I spoke to, they preferred going to Samford over what we did have. The old UAB track was square, instead of oval, and had a visual dip in it. Practice splits on the old track was not a good indicator of what they would run in an actual meet.
We crossed a hurdle but there are more ahead. keep the ship's heading steady!
