Does anyone know when these are typically released? Any roster losses or additions compared to last year (other than grads or signed draftees)?
2 transfers, both pitchers, 1 from Kentucky & 1 from LSU.

The schedule should be released by end of October and the roster isn't usually updated until January 1st, sometimes sooner.

They do have fall practice and a couple of games. http://www.kentstatesports.com/news/2016...edule.aspx
Thanks for the info.
Looks like there is at least one more additional transfer/addition

Nick Kanavas - looks like his first year was at Arizona and then the next two years at Madison College. He was listed as an INF out of HS but looks like he has played in the OF in college.

With 3 transfers plus the freshman class, where's the roster room going to come from? Where there enough players that graduated or got drafted to make enough room on the roster?
There will be subtractions from last years roster other than graduation and draft also, there usually are for various reasons. Each programs goes through it. I know of at least one who transfer from the baseball program. The kid from Lexington, Ohio transferred to Ashland, he was a freshman last year.

But roster room is a good question. I believe the max for a roster is 35 or 36 or somewhere in that neighborhood.

I will say under Duncan it seems like there have been more transferring coming in than years past.

We've seemingly also gotten away from our recruiting strengths in NE Ohio and Western PA - the two regions our program's 2007-2012 run was really built on. Perhaps a no-longer-dormant Pittsburgh program (and ACC schedule) is a factor in that.
Our recruiting is as good or better than ever. We continue to pull in top talent from the state which includes NE Ohio. We've tapped in the talent rich area of southern Ohio and picked up good players from the Northern Illinois, Wisconsin area. We may have some competition Pitt now yes but I look at is as Kent State is widening their talent pull which is a nod to the continued tradition and success its had. Constantly the best baseball program in Ohio for sure.

On what basis are you making these claims? Not trying to argue or start anything, just curious.
As far as the recruiting:

Recently we've pulled from HS baseball powerhouse Moeller
We recruited top 10 talent in respective states, Ohio, Wisc and top 25 from PA
HS MLB draft results and then college MLB draft results
Publications have listed Kent State with number 1 recruiting classes in Ohio in previous years.

As far as being the top team in Ohio, I think looking at the results in the past 10+ years and the consistency even though teams have fallen short of their goals.

I did miss in my previous post we do have two commits from PA in this years incoming freshman class and currently have a commit from one in the class of 2017 from PA. So PA isn't a dead end for recruiting.

I think they have 3 players from Moeller, all from the same graduating class. Two of the three did not play last year and one doesn't appear to have played summer ball.
Joe Vranesic
Looks like he was redshirted last year for pitching depth and development. Was in the low 90s coming in to college last year. Pitched for the Midwest Redbirds scout team going in to college. This summer played for the Willmar Stingrays summer collegiate team. Pitched in the game against Malone last week.

Josh Hollander
29 games as a freshman last year, 25 starts. #3 SS in the state coming out of HS. Played for the Green Bay Bullfrogs collegiate team this summer. Moellers #2 hitter in HS.

Bryan Soth
Was not listed on the roster last year and I'm not sure what the story there is.

In their 4 years in HS Moeller won 3 state championships and the other year was a Final 4 appearance.

Is Ziegler eligible this year? It looks like he should be. If so, Murray, Kraus, Ziegler, Skolnicki?, we could have some great depth this year. Not to mention strong bullpen arms, especially if Drabick pans out early.
Looks like no fall schedule this year. Anybody know why?
Burden

if you checkout the news updates there is some info on the Fall. The team has completed games against the Great Lake Canadians and Malone University. I believe the Blue and Gold series will begin in the coming weeks

KSU Agee

I believe Ziegler is eligible this year. He did not play last year and if the transfer happened last year as far as enrollment he should be good to go this year. I don't know if there also was an injury involved there or not.

Blue and Gold series started yesterday - the Gold won the first game.
My bad. I just looked at the schedule on the web site and it wasn't there.

Soth may have been hurt last season.

I think Willmar Stingrays was wrong for Vranesic. Looks like it was actually Willmar "Stingers". According to their website he led the team in appearances with 20 and gave up just one extra-base hit (2b). He finished with a 1.36 ERA and opposing teams hit .144 against him. No starts or saves listed, so not sure what his role was, plus not enough innings (21) to have been starter.

Hollander hit .260 in 36 games for the Bullfrogs with 8 RBI's in 100 AB's. In the field he finished with a .924 fielding percentage with 11 errors.

I wasn't too familiar with collegiate summer ball, so I'm not sure if this is true for all leagues, but I was surprised and impressed with the amount of information available for the Northwoods League teams. It looks like their websites are nicely done.
33 days until the KSU Baseball season starts @ Belmont University. Dannyb73, you making the weekend trip up from Memphis TN, to Nashville TN for any of the games?

Looks like all open dates they had have been filled.

Should be another great season for KSU Baseball. Hopefully they can finish the season strong and win the MAC Tournament.
