11 schools still under consideration including Rice and Tulane. Memphis dropped due to academics.

Some in Memphis are seeing this as the end of the world.

You have to think Rice/Tulane/BYU is because of the private donors and willingness to take less $$$.

Rice and Tulane is still in the hunt for the same reason Memphis is out - Academics. It's University Presidents making the decisions, and all University Presidents except one in north central Alabama care about Academics.

BYU is in the hunt because it's like a mini Notre Dame with a national fanbase.

An unknown factor is how seriously the Big 12 is in adding 2 or 4 and expanding into the eastern states. One would think UH, BYU and CSU might have an inside track for western schools, and USF, UCF and Cinnci might have advantage among eastward teams. Any of the rest could be considered by some presidents as contenders. My tea leaves and 8 ball don't provide much help.

I'm mildly surprised that Memphis has been ruled out.
