I think it's been an indirect factor. Basketball has given the university visibility, name recognition, and a reputation for at least one big-time program. And directly I think it probably plays a small role like you mentioned with Kansas and ISU.

Send enough ribs and BBQ to all of the presidents and it might just be the difference maker.
