Dead in the water.
Rockets receive 6 votes in the AP poll. Tied for 39th with WMU. CMU got 16.

Rockets also receive 6 votes in the coaches poll. Tied for 42nd with CMU. WMU got 16.

Weird symmetry.

16 votes for a team that got a win on a botched call-hmmm?

I don't get the AP poll, how can an FCS team receive 47 votes in the FBS rankings? I know they pulled an upset over #7 Iowa, but it is only week 4 rankings. How can they leap frog so many undefeated FBS teams to #27? Iowa to date has beaten two winless teams. They haven't done anything to prove that they deserved a #7 ranking in the week 3 polls.

It is probably the Bison's good luck that AP sports writers can vote for whomever the like and also the fact the Iowa, being in the BiG was seriously overrated. Besides one's recent history over the past several year also influences voting in current polls and NDSU has a very strong recent history---their win over Iowa was not an isolated event.
It's all about the novelty of voting for an FCS school because they can. Way more of a story than voting for an FBS team from the Mac.

I would throw them a vote. They are better than 75% of the MAC.

If they beat an already 8 win Iowa in week 10? Sure, give em a vote. But 13 Iowa is vastly overrated and just like NW they dont play enough good competition to grant that ranking. Their offense is terrible outside of a decent 1-2 punch at RB. They will lose to Wisconsin and UM probably escaping the rest of the way for a terrible 9 win season.

If NDSU is better than 75% of the MAC, then you're saying UT, CMU, and WMU should be getting votes in the top25 as well. Im guessing 1 of the 3 are pretenders as far as top25 talent goes. Id rank NDSU in the top 50 of FBS... If they run the schedule I'd throw em a #25 vote... Only then.

IMO it's the type of team Iowa is that makes them beatable. Low scoring, defensive games keep good teams with slightly smaller and faster players in the game. Iowa would die with UT's tempo.

That being said... There is an FCS school better than many MAC teams... Yikes. Don't schedule them!!
FCS teams haveat least 8 wins over FBS teams this year. In addition to Iowa & Iowa St, Northwestern, Washington State and Virginia have all lost to FCS teams. Kent, Buffalo & Miami also. Add to that that highly ranked Tennessee had to go to OT to beat Appalachian St, top 10 ranked Georgia had to come from behind to beat Nichols State by 2, and Arizona trailed by more than 2 TDs in the 2nd half before coming back to win against ... umm, I forget who. Also, BG was very, very lucky to win by 1 over ND, and there have been a few other games that were much closer than might be expected.

So it isn't clear to me that FCS is a lower tier than FBS this season. Since NDSU is likely the best again in FCS, I might think that not only do they deserve to get votes, but they might be at least top 20 team this season.
The amount of voters that have NDST in the 20-22 range is laughable.

What is also really laughable is that the coaches poll still has Iowa in the top 25. Also how often does a team come off on the wrong end of a 63-20 score and still be considered as the 13th or 14th best team in the country? Lots of crazy voting in both polls.
