ESPN and Fox are both even threatening a lawsuit if Big 12 goes through with expansion.
What a shame

Great then the American can stay together and make it to the open market and finally get paid right, or the big12's plan was for at least 4 teams and maybe even 6. Why would espn gripe about 2 teams (20mil total). What if fox's end game is to price espn out of the big12 with 4-6 eastern aac teams for good measure lol. Screw micky mouse

Naw mickmack I really think espn is just whining because for once they are finally getting the short end of the stick. That's new to them you know.....
ESPN ****s over the schools on the cusp yet again.
Or there was never serious plans for realignment and this was all to shakedown ESPN for more money and prevent an off season of nothing but talking about the Baylor scandal and how the B12 isn't punishing them in anyway.

Exactly what this smells like.
B12: you have to honor the contract and we will expand...
ESPN: nu-uh. Not the spirit of the agreement
B12: then raise the payout and we won't do it
ESPN: you have a contract now that pays more than you're worth.
B12: and that contract allows us to add teams pro rata...maybe we get 18-20 teams to apply....maybe we invite Arky State? They'd come cheap and we'd keep the $$$
ESPN: We'll sue!
B12: just pay us the money and it can all go away

I was referring to the AAC. There's a lot of optimism about future t.v. negotiations. Yeah, we'll see about that.

No, it sounds more like:

Ketchum: Here's my free teaser. Pay me $9.95 a month and get additional scoop including inside information on the team during the season.

Sounds like either a shakedown for either more money or a B12 network, or maybe BYU is out for the expansion and ESPN is pissed. I am sure ESPN would love to roll that contract into the B12, otherwise they pay more money and still have to BYU!!! 03-hissyfit03-hissyfit
Well you kind of knew Big 12 expansion was a sham when they announced they would conduct interviews with 17 schools.
This is a kneejerk reaction by the ESPN for the protection of keeping the AAC & BYU contracts intact with the present teams. The Big12-2 will get more money without any expansion for the rest of their contract. Good luck after that.

Possibly. I always get a kick out of the idea ESPN is mad they will have to pay an AAC team more money but they had no problem giving TCU, Utah, Rutgers, Syracuse, Pitt, Louisville and WVU similar raises (TCU and Utah were making ~$1m a year. The Big East schools were making $3-4M/year). Why the outrage all of a sudden?
When has a lawsuit ever stopped a conference from expanding?

There is a difference. ESPN was willing to upgrade the Big East contract to 13 mill per team before the conference voted it down. Paying the AAC teams only 2 mill per year is a big difference.

Except if the conference really did not want to expand in the first place.
I could believe things would get testy with four.

They'll be just fine with two from BYU, Houston, and Cincy.
