Just a few observations at this point.

1. Our starting defensive line is very good. They must be since we have a slew of offensive linemen returning. It was a basic stalemate most of the game.

2. Our corners are much improved and faster. No wide open receivers like last years scrimmage.

3. Dane ran some. That is a huge improvement over the last couple of years, but the scrimmage was not full contact. What i wanted to see was Dane "reading" whether to run or not and he did most of the time. Dane also has a noticibly stronger throw and seems comfortable on both touch throws and bullets.

4. It looked like we have more team speed on both sides of ball.

5. We may miss K Garrett more than expected, but there was no way we could makeup for his physical ability.

Thats about all I could tell from such a limited scrimmage.

Anyone have any other observations?
One thing I noticed about us was that even though we will graduate some skill kids offensively, we will return both lines virtually intact next year (2017). Blake Belcher is listed as a senior in PSCFM, but was granted an extra year to play last week, so he "became" a junior rather than senior. Our entire offensive line are underclassmen now - OT Plagg and Belcher, OG Bowling and Wright and OC Miller. We also will return a very good TE Chris Minter (6-3 247), just a sophomore. Our runners are all young as well. So there is a great foundation of offense for next (2017) season.

Our defensive line is young also. DE's Jeremy Smith (6-5 260) and Frankie Davis (6-3 245), DT's Brubaker (6-3 270) started and all return next year although Uwaezuoke will graduate. But Kolton Shindelar (6-6 280), the former track star in the hurdles can play anywhere and is also just a junior. My favorite play last year was his 80 yard interception return for a TD in NOLA that secured the Independence Bowl invite. We still have a young offensive team and will return at least 8 starters in 2017 (that doesn't count the possibility of getting Keevan a medical RS) on offense and at least 7 on defense.

The future looks bright. But SSSSSSSHHHHHHH! Don't spread the word around too much!
