We have had top 10 Rocket football win discussions but who are the best P5 wins? If we beat BYU would that reach the top 10?

2015 Arkansas (up there with the best teams we have ever beaten... #1 total offense in the nation... I witnessed it so yea)
2008 Michigan (we both sucked that year, but Ann Arbor being 45 minutes up the road made that the biggest win for our program)
2003 Pitt (classic game, and the best home win... Larry Fitzgerald lost to Toledo in the Glass Bowl...wow)
2000 Penn State (gosh this one is hard to put 4th. We simply smoked em)
1997 Purdue (that Brees led team won 9 games, won the Alamo Bowl and finished ranked 15th... They were a better team than Arkansas but not a better offense)
2006 Kansas (6-6 team, 2 OT's... What a game.)
2009 Colorado (they sucked... But we put up a crap ton of points! This game kind of started the Beckman era, and brought Toledo back to where we are now)
2010 Purdue (This was the first big win in our comeback season... Dantin's run up the middle for 50 was quite the play)
1992 Purdue (they started off the season beating #17 Cal and must have overlooked the Rockets...)
2001 Minnesota (MAC title year, and this butt whooping kicked off the season)
I'd flip U of M and Ark, simply because of geography. People here are more impressed w a win over UM. Then I'd flip the next two because Penn State was Big Ten and big time back then and we had no history of beating those kinds of teams. Apart from that I can't argue your choices (maybe move Colorado up due to a National championship they had about ten years before we played them while Kansas had no hx of football success). All of your reasoning is excellent, though.

BYU is not P5 are they?

2015 @Arkansas
2003 Pitt
1997 Purdue
2000 @Penn State
2006 Kansas
2008 @Michigan
2001 Minnesota
1992 @Purdue
2010 @Purdue
2015 Iowa State
2009 Colorado
2007 Iowa State
I remember after the Penn State game one of the newspaper stories started by saying everyone in the stadium was expecting a one-sided game, they just didn't think it would be in favor of Toledo.
Syracuse should have been on the list. You could see the missed extra point from where I sat on the far end zone line.
Penn State just lost the College Football kick-off game to USC the week prior. They were licking their wounds, and should have been totally pumped for Toledo. The Toledo offense with the short passing game, Chester Taylor, back-up McCray, FB King, and the QB were very effective behind a big o-line. They maintained a lot of drives. The O-line opened big holes. Penn State lost Arrington in the draft the prior year, but the D-line had two All - Americans Kennedy and Jurivicius. The future Heisman Larry Kennedy was rendered ineffective against the defence. Leo Frierson and Frank Ofili had great games.

Rashard Casey was a scrambling QB. I remember there was question if he would play due to some issues. A lady I worked with and her husband attended the game. I asked her about PSU's concern at QB. She said, "Penn State could beat Toledo without a QB." Oops!

When she returned, she said after the game had been decided the Penn State fans were rooting for Toledo. I remember the announcer acknowledging Toledo players over the PA from Western Pennsylvania. Pretty classy. Paterno couldn't understand how the Toledo QB missed his recruiting radar in his post-game comments. Nice.

I'll bet Casey had 200 scrambling yards behind the line of scrimmage. The one score they had was related to this, and should have been a 15 yard loss.03-banghead

Great memory!!!

1. Arkansas
2. Penn State
3. Pittsburgh
4. Michigan - incredibly special. Substitute as you wish
5. Minnesota - this was a huge win. They had an All-American WR that was really held in check.
6. Purdue - Brees debut. He came in as mop up and added a couple TD's. I believe they beat ND the next week. Announcer Paul Horning?? said, " I am glad we are not playing Toledo."
7. Iowa State when Parmele ran back a kick-off with no time remaining.
8. Purdue 1992 - Casey McBeth at RB, Dan Williams at DE, and Meijer at QB. "It's the snap with another catch over the middle to the Tight End for a first down." This game permanently put me on my alma-maters band wagon as the first win over a Big 10 school. Special game.
9. Colorado - Dan Mullins ?? still blames Toledo for his dismissal from the head coaching position at Colorado. I remember Colorado being a step slow. Paige tore them up.
10. 2015 Iowa State. Should have been a blow-out.
11. Dantin's 50 yard run and a great defensive stand late against Purdue.
Myself, I would put the Minnesota game up around the middle somewhere because it was part of a new era which started the season before. Toledo had risen to a new level and could now beat the Big boys. I can still see Glen Mason standing on the sideline gobsmacked like he didn't even know where he was or what was going on in front of him. It was hilarious. The guy looked shell shocked.
If only we had beaten that team in Columbus...03-banghead

Great list, mine would read:

1. 2003 Pitt - The most electric atmosphere I've ever seen on campus. Close game, exciting plays, unforgettable finish. Toledo received a ton of press after this game.
2. 2008 Michigan - It's hard not to put this #1 but it's a very close 2nd for me, probably because I listened on the radio. To bad the refs screwed us in Columbus with the great Eric Page game or that would most definitely be #1.
3. 2000 Penn State - put Toledo on the map for some. Massive beatdown of JoePa in Happy Valley, what more can be said?
4 - 10. Interchangeable. But I would say 2015 Arkansas is the best of the rest.
1. pitt 03 - huge home last second win by great UT team against a top 10 team. (only game on this list I wasn't at or watched live-so maybe that weighs into my choice)
2. penn st 00 - dominant win over a national power in front of a huge crowd and national tv. started off great year.
3. minnesota 01 - dominant exciting home win in front of huge
4. Michigan 08 - my personal favorite fan experience sitting in that famous stadium just up the road and pulling out the tight win
5. arkansas 15 - going into SEC country and beating one of the better teams in the league, ranked, by beating them up was a lot of fun.
6. purdue 97 - good big 10 team on the road
7. purdue 92 - first big name win for rockets
8. colorado 09 - big exciting home win over a name team
9. kansas 06 - great game
10. Purdue 10 - breakthrough win getting the program back to a high level
