With the announcement that the ACC will be playing 20 league basketball games, I think it is easy to assume that any hope of an ACC opponent showing up at the Constant Center to play ODU is slim and none (and slim is headed for the door).
When was the last time an ACC school played here (in Men's basketball, which I'm assuming this is referring to)?

I know the last P5 was Missouri.

Yes basketball

Virginia Tech when Seth was coached.
The idea of not considering doing 2 for 1 is probably an obsolete thought. With the ACC playing 20 conference games, 1 Big Ten/ACC game, and 1 game allocated for an exempt event, that would leave just 6 other games for them to schedule. I'm sure most of them will be filled with guarantees... (from MEAC, Big South, and even schools in our conference such as FAU...)

Also, if other P5 schools follow suit, strength of schedule will be even more lopsided come selection sunday.....

He meant "real" ACC team.

And for that, it's UNC with Stackhouse/Wallace

LOL. How about UNC opening night at the TED.
I was living in Seattle when the TED opened, so my history has been cut off. :)
Unlike a few "half-fans" on this site people have actually seen me at ODU games! LOL
Ive seen UNC, Clemson and VT play at the Ted.
ACC teams playing at ODU is so rare that this is a non-story. We should be scheduling and playing as many Big East and A-10 teams as possible. Many of them want to recruit the area and we should be selling that.

FACC all day. They're good but ODU never needed them for our success.

The ACC going to 20 games isn't that big a deal for ODU, because the top half of the schools aren't scheduling ODU anyway, and the bottom third are interchangeable with many mid-major programs. But if other conferences follow suit, that's where things get hairy. The Big East likely won't because they're already at 18 games, but who's to say the A-10 doesn't increase its in-conference scheduling?

Just one more reason to pray for the AAC.
The biggest concern I see here is RPI. The more conference games the power conferences play, the more they distance themselves from the rest. I also seem to remember reading something recently saying that one of the proposed changes from the rules committee is to change the formula for calculating RPI weight conference games more heavily, which would compound the problem.

Best-case scenario is that the AAC loses one school and replaces it with ODU. Still an improvement in football and a marked improvement in basketball.

If the AAC loses three, their basketball would almost assuredly take a huge hit (unless the Big 12 did something wacky and picked Houston, UCF and USF) It'd still be a good fit for ODU, of course, but the basketball advantage wouldn't be as great.

If they lost Memphis, Cincinnati, UConn and Houston, then you still take the AAC invite at the earliest opportunity, BUT it's a far weaker conference than it was. Because now the top teams are Temple (consistently an NCAA contender but only one trip to the second weekend since 2001), Tulsa (usually respectable but after 2003, only two NCAA trips) and SMU (a big question mark after Brown left)

I think at the very lest Memphis or UCONN will be left in the AAC.
I think the best bet for ODU is that they lose UConn, Cincy and UH.... and replace them with ODU and UMass. That would still be the best basketball conference we've ever been a part of. Imagine ECU, Navy and UCF/USF in football, and Memphis, Temple and UMass in hoops. I would LOVE it.

Agree with you on most of the post, but I cannot imagine a scenario where any of the A-10 schools wouldn't LOVE to get the benefits of having ODU on their schedule. We're a GREAT non-conference foe for every one of them and that will continue as long as we don't suppress our aspirations.
The 20 game ACC schedule is likely tied to the debut of the ACC Network in 2019. The network needs "inventory" (attractive games) to pull up their ratings and the thought is more inter-league games will do that. Just another example of the rich getting richer.

Assuming you are going to play most non-conference games at home, this results in less ACC-controlled games.
