Isn't anyone not in a P5 conference "interested"?
I think Brown is right about Houston. Texas is lukewarm to the idea of adding them, and the non-Texas schools don't want anything to do with adding another Texas school, but the Texas legislature is supposedly putting pressure on Texas to get Houston in. I think if they add 4, Houston could make it, with a push from Texas.

Legitimacy on field (I.e. Peach Bowl defending champions) doesn't hurt. That' primarily important in most minds.

Doesn't matter much; this matters the most - $$$
The BS you have heard about the non-Texas schools not wanting UH is a complete lie.

That is media spin that UT has been floating out there since June. It's political cover for them.

UT, TCU, and TT are our roadblock.

That's not what they were saying in the video. It was about competitive match. Good teams. Noting WV has been slow to get up to speed.
Guess the 4th spot is the one that's going to keep most awake late at nights.
Chip Brown used the word reactionary, someone alert the grammar police.
Good luck Houston. I'm hoping you guys get the nod. You deserve it more than any other G5 university IMHO.
I wonder what the conference landscape would be like today if the entire SWC had merged with the Big 8 back in the 1990's.

Would TCU still have flourished?

Would the WAC still be around? The MWC would never have been created if the WAC hadn't grown to 16 teams, which probably wouldn't have happened since Rice, SMU and TCU wouldn't have needed homes.

Would other major conferences have gone to 16 by now?

I agree it doesn't hurt. But I disagree that it is a primary factor right now.

Its always been the narrative. Both Utah and TCU got where they are by EARNING it (like Houston).

I'm not positive, but I think his point is that Houston had a decent year in football and is therefore on the same level as TCU and Utah.

So earning it is quantified as new facilities and one outstanding year on the football field? UCF had one of those and didn't win a game last year. Did they earn it and then negate it?

I mean, TCU only won 11+ games in 6 of their 7 seasons in the MWC. 03-shhhh

How many 13 win seasons did they have? Houston has had multiple in the past handful of years. Damn right that's earning it. Memphis has done nothing.
Where the teams stand now, competitively, is every bit as relevant. Bringing in the Peach Bowl Champions is a huge carrot. Don't kid yourselves. If a team faceplants out of the gate, that will be a disaster for the Big 12.
