Houston and BYU top two
Cincinnati and Memphis for the 3rd and 4th spots
I have said several times on this board that if the Big12 ever expanded it would be BYU and Houston. I still stand by that prediction
Coaches are the last people whose opinions should matter. They're very good at smooth-talking 18 year olds and teaching them to be better football players. But they're typically horrible at any sort of analysis of pros and cons - whether it's rules changes, scheduling, or conference mates.

*And yes, I wrote this response before I read that my school isn't high on their list.

Basically BYU, UH, Cincy and Memphis are tied, FWIW.
Interesting. So what is it that coaches value? Not sure if I can deduce anything from this. Except that they don't want UConn, USF, OR UCF.
Too bad coaches don't make the decision and that TV partners get a big say in the matter.

Houston wont get added for the same reason the Pac wont add San Diego State or why the ACC wont add ECU. No conference wants five schools from the same state.

Well, the coaches were presented with the Navigate/BVH data in May. So they aren't wholly uninformed on the merits.

I think it's interesting about the exit fees....
AAC 10 million dollars and 27 month exit....
MWC either 1 year notice OR 5 million or double the schools conference revenue from last year.

That was my prediction earlier today in another thread.
Cincy and BYU. It just makes sense.

Cincy gives you a solid NE presence in a fertile recruiting state...a travel partner for WVU...and doesn't dilute the Big 12's own recruiting region in the slightest.

BYU...same thing but on the western side. No travel partner, but they get the league back in the mountain time zone. Their name/national presence (Mormon church) is strong enough to allow them to be a somewhat western island. (It's still not as far away as WVU/Cincy would be....)

Houston would be bad for BU, TTECH, UT, and TCU. The only thing the addition of Houston would tell me...is that Texas is gone soon. No way they elevate ANOTHER G5 school in their own backyard (see TCU/Baylor).

UT already cover the Houston market for TV purposes. California has 12 million more people than Texas and they wont add a 5th team. There is no need too, the fans already have a rooting interest in teams close by. If there were no other options around then yes, they would be attractive. But just like SD St they unfortunately have two big historic names close enough by to siphon off fans interest.
BYU and Cincy should be locks. Maybe Memphis and UCF if they go to 14.

Houston is not wanted.

Uh I wouldn't say Cincy is in the northeast. It's pretty clearly on the border of the mid-west and the south.
Makes sense the top teams from last year are top of list for coaches.

MAC

My point exactly.
It will take 8 votes to get in. 3 schools can block someone.
Not surprised to not see UCONN mentioned. The closest rival to the Huskies would be WVU in Morgantown: 525 miles away

Tulsa suburb Broken Arrow is the present geographic center of The Big 12 conference. BYU would be 1233 miles from that center. WVU is 1013. Ironically Provo is only 645 miles from Los Angeles. Adding The Bearcats and Tigers would move the conference eastward considerably. Haven't calculated where adding BYU and Houston would place the conference geographic center.

For reference purposes UCONN is 1495 miles from the geographic center of The Big 12
