Let the speculation begin:

Big 12 Prepares To Look At Expansion
The Big 12 presidents have directed Commissioner Bob Bowlsby to evaluate schools that are interested in joining the conference, stopping just short of announcing it planned to expand.
After a meeting of the Big 12 university presidents and chancellors on Tuesday, Oklahoma President David Boren says the conference leaders voted unanimously to take another step toward adding to the 10-member conference.
“I think it’s a statement that we want to move forward,” Boren said. “Yes, it’s a positive step. Not a decision yet.”
The Big 12 has been the smallest of the Power Five leagues since 2012. The conference has already announced it would bring back its football championship game in 2017 and likely break into divisions.
Numerous schools have been pitching the Big 12 behind the scenes for months, including American Athletic Conference members Cincinnati Connecticut, Memphis, Houston and Central Florida, along with BYU, Colorado State and others.
I was just thinking someone should start a thread on here regarding conference movement. I have been surprised that we have gone all this time without one*

*or two, right Potomac?

It just doesn't matter.
I think we (ODU) are in a nice spot. We either get chosen to go to the AAC or we stay in CUSA and JMU back fills whoever we lose. It would be great to have yall in the same conference as Marshall, Charlotte and us.

Agree.

As much as I'm sure many JMU and ODU fans would love for JMU to move up, they wont. JMU is handicapped by their school president.
oy vey

JMU has never said they wouldn't move up. they just said they didn't want the sun Belt

If CUSA or the MAC offered today, we'd accept tomorrow. end of story.
Somebody with more free time than I have needs to shake this down: So if B12 expands by four, as they've indicated they might, how will that work down to CUSA, or especially MAC? We need there to be at one or two open spots in those conferences, and then we need to aggressively lobby.

B12 is looking at AAC teams. History suggests AAC will attempt to backfill with CUSA teams, though I suppose they could take MAC teams also.

AAC folks think they could lose up to 4 teams. If that happens, I hope JB has the guts to pitch AAC, on the off chance they don't want 4 from CUSA and may consider facilities/attendance/etc over FCS status.
That is as likely as ESPN game day ever coming to JMU

Wait, what? Game day at JMU.

While a long shot, JMU would be a better Facility / Academic/ and Overall Athletic program add to the AAC than any of the existing CUSA members. Would have to believe we would be in the mix for AAC if they lose 4. Maybe not so much if its just 1 or 2. We are FBS ready and with the new Convo almost ready to roll , our Admin should have the tools to make the Sale. Biggest question mark is the commitment demonstrated at the top of the JMU Admin...
Had we made the jump 2 -3 years ago, this would be a no-brainer.

100% agree. I would love for this to happen if ODU doesn't get a call from the AAC.

That would be a dream!

If the AAC loses 4 to the BigXII, they could backfill with NIU, UMass, and two CUSA schools. That would take the CUSA from 14 members to 12. At 12 members, the CUSA really wouldn't have to add anyone. So that would just leave the MAC with one spot to fill. I like to think we're at the top of the MAC's target list, but they might want a western school like Illinois State to replace NIU. So I like to think there's a good shot at the trickle-down reaching JMU, but there's a chance it will not. We're pretty far down the line and a lot of different scenarios can play out at each level.
I would not be surprised if Ohio was also in the mix for AAC. Of course that might mean we backfill into the MAC...if at all.

ESPN has leaders. JMU does not.

Opinion or do you have access to the AAC's plans?
