He made it 4 years which was longer than I had.
Apparently he wanted a longer term contract extension than SMU was willing to give so he resigned. At least that is the story now.
Holy sh!t!
Over under on when SMU goes on probation.
SMU will be fine with Tim Jankovich...

Going from a Hall of Fame coach with a 73% college winning percentage to one with a 56.5% one and losing a lot of guys from last year too.

Jank went 104-64 (.619) at Illinois State (deff not a powerhouse) and managed to lead them to 4 NITs in 5 years...he also just spent 4 years learning from an all time great.

he's the best SMU could hope for to follow Larry Brown...he's been waiting for this moment for 4 years now.
No way you go from Larry Brown to Janko and not see that as a net loss.

everything is going according to plan...Larry rebuilds SMU, and hands it off to the guy hand picked by Larry to follow him.
they'll slowly go back to the mean.

same thing happened to St.Loius when Majerus died. They were good until Rick"s recruits graduated

Rick died unexpectedly...most people expected Larry to do 4 years and retire...which is exactly what's happening.

completely different circumstances.

you'll see the same result . SMU could offer a chance to be coached by a former NBA coach. Not now.
The new guy will last 3 years.

And that plan rarely works. Especially at a historically bad program.

really? Gonzaga (Monson takes Gonzaga to an Elite Eight and Few takes over) and Wichita State (Turgeon takes WSU to a Sweet 16, and Gregg Marshall takes over) come to mind...neither of those were powerhouses.
Larry Brown’s entire career in a nutshell: arrive at subpar program, bring program to relevance, invite scandal, leave at worst time.

that's the smart way to do it.
