SMU and Texas friends. Traveling to Dallas today (from NOLA) for the holiday weekend. Looking for some Texas BBQ in the area (will have a rental car), not looking for some tourist spot where I spend an hour in line. Just want solid BBQ with less then 20 minutes wait.

Also looking to hit the links. Willing to pay more for the better course but also looking for the best bargain. I am about a 12 handicap. Looking for cost/benefit.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks. Always ready to retunr the favor when you visit NOLA.

Talk to Pony94 he knows the best spots.
Pecan Lodge
Lockhart Smokehouse

If you drive farther, Hutchins is really good.

Golf wise, expensive but Tour 18 in Flower Mound is a cool experience. They've recreated the most famous holes of other courses. Good value: Grapevine Golf Course is pretty much next door to the far more expensive Cowboys Golf Club but is a municipal course so much less expensive and offers a good golfing experience. Golf Club of Dallas is a great value too, and was the home of the Byron Nelson before it moved to TPC Las Colinas

If you are a ClubCorp member look into one of the ClubCorp clubs as a lot of them will let you play for free or discounted rates.
Hard Eight or The Slow Bone.

Tour 18 looked interesting but was an hour away. Decided on Prairie View for only $35, which is a steal. Thanks for the suggestions. Very close to choosing Golf Club of Dallas, maybe next trip.

This. The line might be long though.

Thanks. Will there be an hour long wait at Hard Eight, The Slow Bone and/or Pecan Lodge?

Likely at Pecan Lodge. Hard Eight, probably 30-45 minutes. Not sure what the weekend crowd will be like at Slow Bone as that's a place I've only done during the week.
