The General Counsel of the University of Alabama is up to his ears in this state's big building projects. This story shows his involvement with the Gulf State park development that Gov. Bentley has ramrodded. He was to have been the lead guy on the $800m State Prison no-bid boondoggle that Bentley was trying to push through as well.

So where is the money coming from? Well, therein hangs a tale...

It seems to me that he was also involved in another big money public works contract. Anyone know what else he's working on now or recently?

And of course, he created and runs ACEGOV, the Luv Guv's 401©3, aka the Dark Money Fund or the Girlfriend Fund. Want to see some now amusing propaganda?

I blame the AL GOP House & Senate for being ******* & not caring what Bentley does or when he does it.

His ass should have been removed by now.

I blame the voters in this state. I cannot believe people elected this man again.
A LOT not true in the GSP article and that lawsuit will die. It has no merit. Lots of lies and hurt feelings. Grimly is a POS scumbag that has questionable motives. I cant say much but they are WAY off base in the criticism of the GSP project. Bentley may be a scumbag but the GSP PROJECTS are great. I'm impressed.
The need to focus on the mansion that Bentley wants redesigned down there.
A few things:

1: Jim Zeigler is a nut. I mean 100% certifiably insane. And as the auditor has no authority or jurisdiction over really anything at all. He really needs to be in an asylum.

2. The building of the facility is a good thing. Last week I was at the Alabama State Bar conference...in Destin. There is no where in Gulf Shores/Orange Beach to have it.

3. The issue is who is behind the scenes. Why is UA running the show? Who is lining their pockets? It stinks to high heaven.
Without saying too much I agree with most of that Bates and will add that no one is getting any pockets lined and every dime is being watched. I know who is watching the candy store.
No matter the "ONE PARTY STATE", Alabama or any other, any criticism of its public figures that threatens the party itself and its absolute control of the state are forbidden. Personal attacks therefore are permitted but never any that may spread to the ruling party itself. Hubbard can be convicted, Bentley may be impeached and Moore can be suspended, but the party must be protected from harm at all costs.

"A recent press release from the Governor’s Office stated, “Bentley, who tasked the University of Alabama System and the Alabama Department of Conservation to work together on the $135 million project, said that the work won’t be funded through taxes, but financed with funds that BP provided to restore the economy along the Gulf Coast after the 2010 oil spill.”

UA is in it because the Guv wants them there... now who and why he wants there is another question.

"Baxley said Bentley’s legal position, that the BP funds are not public money, is ludicrous, and “most certainly is taxpayer money.” This is shown in the lawsuit filed by Grimsley.

Sanford is not only troubled by Bentley’s actions, but also the role the University of Alabama System has played. “Somehow, the University of Alabama is continuing to spend money on the project without legislative authorization,” said Sanford. “I believe a judge will later find that they should not have been doing that, but because the amount of money in the project as it moves forward, they will allow the project to continue because of the perceived loss of the investment.”

Sanford went on to say, “Even though people are knowingly, willingly breaking the law, that is what will happen.”
I laugh at those comments. I'll bet a steak dinner it gets thrown out. Lots of scumbags kissed they can't get their hands on that money.

Another giggle. One project is complete and two more will be complete within 30 days. I was down there looking at it and what has been done thus far is really really nice. By the time the judge finally throws it out of court for a second time they will be done with everything.
I'd be more impressed with the coverage if the guy could spell "Shattuck."

It does seem . . . convenient . . . that the same individual who negotiated the terms of BP's payment now gets to oversee the spending of that money. While accepting dark money donations as the head of ACEGOV. While overseeing the University system's legal affairs.
He is actually not overseeing the spending. I'll be happy to tell you privately who is. I am the last guy to defend anyone associated with the BOT in any way shape or form but there is a lot of misinformation out there.

Cooper is overseeing the spending as much as PBJ is running day to day operations of UAB football.
All I know is that he is a big Bentley guy, that he formed the girlfriend fund for him, and that he's on this project and was to have been on the $800m no bid prison deal. That's a lot of co-incidences.
He can eat Asian babies for all I know. I can only speak about the GSP project.
