At lunch today I was listening to the 70s station on satellite radio and Olivia Newton John's "Magic" came out. Its funny how a song can take you back in time to a moment in your life. This song came out in 1980, and ONJ was one of the first women to ever make my heart flutter. She obviously first caught my attention in Grease, and I can remember going to see that awful movie "Xanadu" in the theaters. I made my mom by me the album.
The second part of this, in 1980 we didn't have much. I was born to teenaged parents and my mom and dad struggled to get by. That beign said, I had a cheap record player that illuminated disco lights in my room. I can remember turning all the lights out in the dark to this song and listening to the music as the disco lights blared.
Pulled up the video on the YouTube, I find my 45 year old self still in agreement with my 7 year old self. She was stunning.

I'm a few years older than you but I can relate to not having much - my parents divorced when I was near 6 years of age. Music was a great escape for me growing up and I had many singles (45 rpm) with a mono speaker record player. Olivia was beautiful - her physical attractiveness was equaled with her angelic voice.
i've been letting youtube play classical music nonstop for the past couple of weeks. pretty much since i finished reading doctor faustus by thomas mann. it started out as background music and then i just didn't turn it off. the harmony
i'm thinking it's arabesque no. 2 which really piques my fancy
