Been enjoying what other people have posted here, but I haven't chimed in for a while. I spent last weekend at our local festival, Pickathon, which has become a don't-miss for me. They curate the fest with mostly little known acts, trying to catch rising stars and honoring bands that fly under the radar. Here are a few of my favorites from this year.
Kickagaku Moyou - Japanese psych rockers
Shinyribs - Texas band always bringing the party
Black Pumas - Pschedelic soul
Jen Cloher - Throwback Aussie rocker (who happens to be married to Courtney Barnett)
Colter Wall - Kid is 23, and fully channeling Johnny Cash
as an aspiring country western singer songwriter, that last one is right up my alley geefster. i mostly sing about a hard life without redemption, an immoral man in an immoral world. stuff like that
Whilst I don't own any Okkervil River cd, I do have several individual songs downloaded. They did release a new album this spring although it was Will Sheff and a whole new band. Haven't heard it though. These are my favorite tunes from the band.
Both from about a decade ago. Roky Erickson was tripping out in the 60s with 13 floor elevators. I didn't get into him but if you dig that type of music then check out a few other similar albums that I do have.
