The Concert in Central Park is a wonderful listening experience...would've been something to have been there.

"Discovered" this band in my Clifton days haunting the used record stores.

Elton John is not normally my cup of tea, but what a great set "Goodbye" was. Here are a couple I like from it. If my older sister wasn't such a big fan, I probably never would have heard any of these (except for "Bennie")

I think Elton was fantastic. Funeral for a Friend is one of my favorite songs of his.

His live performance of the remake of Candle in the Wind at Princess Diana's (a very good friend of his) funeral is remarkable.

Another one of my Elton John favorites:

It's not his most popular album but I really enjoy Honky Chateau (includes this song and a couple of his hits in Rocket Man and Honky Cat but also has a number of other tracks I enjoy).

Saw Joe at Bogart's in 1990...

Here's someone I sorely miss, and I daresay all of popular music misses..not that he's no longer with us, but he stopped writing some of the most moving music ever:

Come back to us Cat.

We miss you.

One of my very favorites from them...two more that blow the doors off:

If you love the blues, Pigpen was flipping awesome. Fillmore East 2/13/1970

Apparently he listened - he just played a show last night. All the usual hits and he is even calling himself Cat Stevens/Yusuf.

Hell yeah, Pigpen! One of the many artists who died at the age of 27. Speaking of Pigpen and his fellow "27", Janis Joplin, if you haven't checked out 'Festival Express', I strongly encourage it. It came out in 2003, and it's full of footage from the insane train ride/ tour across Canada in 1970, shortly before Janis' death. There are some great moments with Pigpen, Jerry Garcia, Janis, Rick Danko, Levon Helm, etc. It's on a relatively regular rotation in our home.....

Pigpen was actually tight with Janis Joplin. They both preferred Southern Comfort and whiskey drunks to the halucenogenic drugs their friends and fellow musicians imbibed in.

You can throw in another rock musician who died at the age of 27, Jim Morrison, who's appetite (addiction) for alcohol stood far above all other drugs.
Jimmy Hendrix, Brian Jones, Curt Cobain, Amy Winehouse, too...but I suspect they were all less selective in their choice of buzz.
