Bball, our new assistant is scouring the overseas ranks, that's one reason they brought him to ODU.
So if OldTimer hadn't reached out to someone on the website, our recruiting class would be less than stellar. Now that he has, we are currently #2. Just another example of how much stock to put in recruiting rankings. This applies to football too.

The pressure is on new ass't(Jefferson ) to produce. He is O for one so far. He said the greek kid was 6ft6 power forward and a game changer.WRONG! So now I think the heat is on and this big kid would do a lot for his security at ODU. This would be a great get and the cherry on top of a damn good recruiting class.

Yes recruiting rankings are always to be taken with a grain of salt, but again I say that 24/7 is a particularly bad basketball recruiting service.

Look back at their listings of our previous classes. For example the 2015 class is really jacked up. They list Ahmad Carver with Caver's stats and picture, Ahmad Caver with Aaron Carvers stats, Payton Payton Pervier (so nice they named him twice), and Sam Harris (nevermind that he was in the 2004 class.)

24/7's methodology of grading can be questioned, as can any other recruiting service, but their attention to detail absolutely sucks.

BTW, thanks OldTimer for straightening them out on this seasons recruiting.

Who did he say this too? Have we written him off halfway through his freshman year? Has he been successful in recruiting anyone else?

I'm surprised the kid didn't redshirt. I mean he went from European HS to a US college that he never even visited and it all happened pretty quickly. That's a hell of a transition to make for anyone, but then you add in D1 basketball too. I'm willing to give the him a break this season and just let it play out next year.

Thanks for sharing mac. I got to meet coach Jefferson on the Bahamas trip last season. He was a great guy to talk with, very friendly and upbeat. Glad to have him on our staff.
FWIW, I have met Stith as well. Very nice family, met the grandma, mom/dad, and Brandan.

Got to talk with the Stiths at the Charlotte football game. Xavier Green was with them. Good people.

The process of overseas recruitment has always been interesting to me. Do offers get made sight unseen? It seems it would have been pretty hard to mistake the Greek kid for 6'6".

“We watched a bunch of film,” Jones said. “Alfis was the guy we kind of zeroed in on.”

"Jefferson traveled to the U18 European Championships in Slovakia, where he watched Pilavios average 5.6 points and 1.7 rebounds in seven games for the Greek team."

“He’s athletic, he gets out on the break and he finishes above the rim,” Jones said. “While he’s undersized as a rebounder, he battles in there. He can definitely shoot the 3, and we like his toughness.”

They likely don't care if he's 6-4, 6-5, or 6-6 similar to how they don't care that Carver is 6-4/6-5 or however tall Brandan is. They just want guys that will battle inside for rebounds...and in Alfis case they wanted someone that could fit the stretch 4 type role and shoot from the outside while also being able to battle inside for rebounds.

Which no one else has a chance to rebound when Alfis or Hueit are on the floor :)
And I'd like to comically add that Alfis is averaging 12 points, 15 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals per 40 minutes on 100% shooting from 3. Only 50% from the free throw stripe (13 mins total).
he should start as a freshman....
Could be way wrong, but I thought 6-9 Kenan Sarvan at Sullivan was someone we brought over here from overseas.

Yeah. Would it be weird if we brought him over and then didn't sign him? He seems to be pretty raw but has the foundation of being a solid player. Think his defense could be very good if he put on weight.

You are not wrong. Jefferson brought him over but he is 2019. He's been working hard on his perimeter game. I am not sure if he is a fit here. He brought him over but the kid might have wanted to come and get exposure. I am not sure if ODU is really interested. I guess we will see.
What do you mean when you say he '"brought him over" 757 ? Do you mean our coach saw him play somewhere and said, hey, I get probably get you in a local private school? Or what, just wondering.
