Didnt a infamous poster say we wouldnt know until mid june what our team was going to be?

............oh wait.........

Maybe he meant early July?

People whined all summer because they have zero patience and turns out; Jones got 2 big men.

And you knew all along they would end up with 2 highly rated (out of high school) transfers from big name colleges? Sure.

2 highly rated but completely UNPROVEN transfers.

Austin Colbert and Kah were both 4 star recruits from other schools who had zero impact so let’s not go handing jones any extensions yet.

Although my personal opinion is that these kids seem like different types of players than either of those types.

I ALWAYS wait and see.

Of course the two new centers are UNPROVEN transfers. All Jones can do is get them. How they pan out is anyone's guess. I'm glad we got them, aren't you?

Colbert left before he ever got a chance to suit up. Kah hardly ever got a chance to get in a game his first year, then got sidelined by injury his next year. Stuff happens.

No one here is handing Jones contract extensions because of these two recruits. Not sure where that came from. He is however still the coach and whoever the coach is I always want them to be successful and recruits like this - till proven otherwise - are all one can do at this point.
Is he related to Bruce?

I had no idea who they would bring in. But, I didn't need to spend the last 3 months whining about not having transfer big men when there was plenty of time to recruit players. And didn't need to complain everytime a big man transferred elsewhere.

The other runny thing about several on this board is they whined we didn't have freshman big men, then when we signed two, they whined we didn't have transfer big men. Then, we got two and its on to something else.

Now you're whining.

Pretty sure the only people with moving goal posts are the ones defending jones.

Our goal has always been EXACTLY the same, make the NCAA tourney. Period.

Again I’m happy to get them and fully expect them to contribute more than Kah or Colbert.

I just don’t want this to be the excuse that some fans use in year 6 if we yet again fail to make the NCAA tourney because I can already see it coming from a mile away.

Why can't we all just get along 03-banghead
Might be time to block each other if you can't exchange ideas without whining about each other or just being all around annoying in how you explain your ideas. Disagree, state your stance. Agree to disagree and move on. You've all failed to change each others opinions despite herculean efforts to do so, and that's great, but when your debate devolves into calling each other whiners or telling people to STFU you've moved passed productive and healthy exchanging of ideas.

So anyway, I found a very small post on reddit with someone from Providence offered this as a response to what we can expect next year:

"He didn't play other than 3 games in garbage time before he got shut down. All I know is a popsicle has more meat on it and that he was incredibly raw. He was allegedly making progress before the transfer though."

Perhaps sitting out this year wouldn't be the worst thing, give him some time to bulk up and get used to the system.

You are only going to hear negative things from bitter people who comment on a transfer who is leaving the program. Same happened with Porter. It helps people sleep at night. UVA, VT and others didnt want him for no reason.
I really hope we can cut into PC's recruiting in Va. They been a thorn in our side for the past several years. Last year's team, a 1/3 were from Va. A couple players visited PC after a good visit with us, only to commit there. Rodney Bullock their leading scorer, who I really liked. After his visit, thought we were in good shape only to have him commit to PC on a trip the following weeks. The year before they recruited Josh Fortune.

I thought he red-shirted last year.

You're a HS kid and you have the chance to compete against Villanova, Georgetown, Xavier, Marquette, St. John's, Seton Hall, etc., play in the Garden

or

NTex, FIU, FAU, Tex-San Antonio, Charlotte, Rice

Where you going to go until you realize you made a mistake?

Everyone has bias. Take it with a grain of salt, but it still gives you a concept of what he might be like.

It looks like he played the first 3 out of 4 games of last season for a grand total of 10 minutes. I assume the waiver ODU is trying to get through is to not count these 10 minutes to give him another year of eligibility.

Dickens is extremely raw, but with enormous upside. I can't remember ever having someone with his height and jumping ability. Kids that tall just aren't as agile as he is. But, he needs to get stronger and a better feel for the game. Even if he has to sit out another year, it might not be the worst thing for us or his game. It was a no brainer to take him either way.
Bigs take the longest to develop. Very few come in ready to play DI ball. There is a real shortage of 7 footers, so the ones available are in demand. Dickens could of fielded many options with his size, skill set and upside. I feel he'll be a strong player for us in a couple years. My only knock on him, was at times he seemed to take plays off in HS. If he protects the rim, looks for the low post passes and gets out ahead on breaks, he'll be a solid big. The staff work with Trey and this was the areas that he improved the most. Dickens can get there and has already put on some much needed weight this off-season and has been working on his game facing the rim. Let's just enjoy the journey, this is good stuff.
My guess the school will go for a medical hardship waiver (medical redshirt), which they will ask for this off-season. He was shut down due to a bad back.

To be eligible for a medical hardship waiver, a student-athlete has to meet the following criteria:

*The student-athlete must suffer the injury during one of their four seasons of college competition or during the senior year of high school.
*The injury must be incapacitating. That means it must be a season-ending injury.
*The injury must occur prior to the start of the second half of the season.
*The student-athlete must not have competed in more than 30% of the season or three contests, whichever is greater.
All of these must be proven with documentation.

Good research. Good news is he meets all that criteria, if the espn box score is accurate.
So if the NCAA grants this medical hardship waiver to him would that make him immediately eligible, or just sit out a year and pretend like the last season didn't happen?
