So here is the solution for all that ails the ACC – this will make us one big happy family with all members on equal ground. This will also provide the added in-conference content in Football and Basketball that will finally entice ESPN to give us a network. The basic premise is that all member schools must “take one (or two) for the team”!

First, let’s get rid of the scheduling inequity that is real or just perceived by FSU, Clemson, GT, and UL due to having in-state out of conference rivals. We are going to do this by requiring all conference members to play a required home and away series with another out of conference in-state FBS school. This would break down like this:

UNC & App State
NCSU & ECU
Duke & UNC Charlotte
Wake & Vandy (heck they almost do this now and no more NC FBS schools)
UVA & ODU
VT & Marshall (not another FBS school in Virginia)
Syracuse & Buffalo
BC & UMass
Miami & UCF or USF (take your pick)
Pitt & Temple

I am sure that most of these non-ACC schools would jump at the chance to play these ACC teams so making this happen should be no problem. Many of the ACC schools listed above and their fans would hate this but remember that everyone takes one for the team! Yes, it would be better to pair up with SEC schools but that ain’t happening.

Now that the out of conference in state rival issue has been equalized, let’s move on to the conference schedule. We will now play a 9 game football schedule. Clemson & FSU are really unhappy and GT and UL are OK with this – get over it FSU & CU – remember that everyone takes one for the team.

Next, let’s get rid of the pieced together illogical divisions that make some schools happy and piss off others. The most logical divisions are by geography (with the exception of Miami) – saves travel costs and basically re-unites old ACC and old BE conference mates. We do not care about balance or if everyone is happy or unhappy! Everyone gets two permanent rivals (as listed).

North
BC – UNC/Duke
Syracuse – GT/Wake
Pitt – NCSU/Duke
UL – CU/FSU
UVA – UNC/Wake
VT – CU/GT
Miami – FSU/NCSU

South
Clemson – VT/UL
FSU – Miami/UL
GT – VT/Syracuse
UNC – UVA/BC
NCSU – Pitt/Miami
Wake – UVA/Syracuse
Duke – Pitt/BC

So no team will be completely happy (except for maybe UL) about the new divisions and/or the cross over rivals which means that the pain is equally shared by all conference members – so we all take one for the team.

Next we move on and add two more conference games to the basketball schedule. I’ll let someone else pick permanent cross over rivals – again, I am sure that this can be done so that no one is 100% happy and thus everyone feels the pain and takes one for the team!

There now, all problems solved. No one is happy but we all shared the pain, we are now all on equal ground, and we all took at least one if not two hits “for the team”. Lot’s of new content in football and basketball for ESPN so we may finally get our network! And, more importantly, we are working together to make the conference better as a whole and not just for our individual schools.
Pass.

How is scheduling App State, ODU and Temple equal to Florida, Georgia and South Carolina?

Don't like the oBE division. The football strength is in the south. If you don't split them up they wind up beating each other up and a 4-4 team from the north ends up in the CCG.

Never liked Miami in a "north" division. Never will.
Sorry but geography is how they should be done. Every other league groups it's divisions by geography. The acc is the only league with stupid divisions that many fans can't even name by heart

Who cares if the power is currently in the south? The big 10 went by geography and Ohio state , Michigan, penn state and Michigan state are all in the east. I'll take how the big 10 runs football any day over this joke of a conference in that sport

only permanent crossovers are UVa-VT and UNC-NCSU. don't think anyone will cry for Duke-WF, but they can play OOC if they want.

South division would be so much fun.

The ACC has to balance itself out...Having North-South divisions would create a division of football powers in the south vs. a division with Northeast schools, one of the weakest areas in the country in college football

Not all geographic divisions are good ones...you have to have balance

If you aren't going to go in the logical direction of North/South then make it a true zipper by swapping VT and Syracuse.. Both divisions get a Virginia school and both divisions get one of the Northeast weaklings. VT gets UVA as a crossover, BC gets Syracuse and Louisville gets Pitt.
South - North
FSU - Louisville
Miami - Pittsburgh
Clemson- Syracuse
GT - BC
NC - NC State
Duke - WF
Virginia - VT

I agree & I think that this is the best solution.

We weren't significantly behind Florida and Georgia last year and were ahead of South Carolina by a lot. Only 4 ACC teams were ahead of us last year, and Louisville was just barely ahead of us. I'm not going to pretend we're equal to UF and UGA, but we're not some nobody on your schedule any longer. Ask Notre Dame, Penn State, and Oklahoma who we're likely adding to our schedule, and Duke who we may add a series with in the future.

A true zipper could be East - West:

West - East
Cuse - BC
UL - Pitt
VT - VA
Wake - Duke
UNC - NC State

Agreed completely. Been saying this for awhile. The zipper mantra was crammed down our throats to start. Now they have no problem not following it when they get to keep both va teams.

Plus Miami fought for Syracuse so they should have the burden of playing them

Except for the fact that all of the schools in bold are further east than Clemson. You are aware that it's The Citadel that is in Charleston and Coastal Carolina that's in Conway right?

Clemson is essentially as far west on the lat/long grid map as Columbus, OH and is almost three full grid squares further west than Pittsburgh.

I wasn't trying to go pure East/West; I was pairing up teams and then going E/W in the pairs only. Of course, lots of folks - Clemson and UNC in particular - wouldn't like it that way...

So far I'm sticking w/ East/South, 8 games, only crossover is UNC/NCSU.

Of course we wouldn't like it because you found about the only concievable way out conference schedule would be worse. We replace FSU with middling Miami and even more middling VT. I mean one would have to have had a lobotomy to think that would work. We have two rivals in this Godforsaken conference......GT and FSU......and you took away one of them.
