North Texas added yet another vital piece to its 2016 recruiting class at the last minute Wednesday, just hours after picking up a key 2017 recruit early.

The first bit of good news for UNT came late Tuesday when College Station offensive lineman Josh Donovan announced that he had committed to play for the Mean Green.

What started out as a good week for UNT got even better Wednesday when Los Angeles Valley College defensive end Raveon Hoston signed with the Mean Green during a ceremony in California.

UNT defensive coordinator Mike Ekeler and defensive line coach Derrick LeBlanc recruited Hoston for months. The 6-4, 246-pound standout could be a key player who will make UNT’s transition to playing in a 3-3-5 alignment under a new coaching staff a smooth one.

“I made my mind up weeks ago about this decision,” Hoston said. “I am going to be a part of the new era at the University of North Texas.”

Hoston had offers from Memphis and Central Florida in the weeks leading up to national signing day in February. He returned to L.A. Valley for the spring semester and saw his stock soar.

More than a dozen schools offered Hoston a scholarship late, including Alabama and Nebraska.
