Home Games at the Pelham Civic Complex
Just asking -- How many home games would UAB have to schedule to get the BJCC to bring back the ice there? When the BULLS were playing there, the ice was maintained year round except for when the Ringling Bros Circus came to town.

Games are played in Pelham.
If we were to go DI and add gymnastics and women's lacrosse then we could look at the BJCC and market it (if we had an AD with vision) then we could look at it.

UAB Hockey would peak the interest of the casual fan and the old bulls fans.
I'm not sure if the costs to play at BJCC would be supported by crowds vs what Pelham costs/holds unless BJCC gives us a $1/yr lease sweetheart type deal. If we go D1, I would assume UAT would be as well & we both play at Pelham unless they move/build something in Tuscaloosa so who gets priority???
DI would step it up. The rent would not be that bad as we would enter a multiple use contract. People forget how popular hockey was in this area. We are not all dead. If marketed properly it could be a hit. If they win. Biggest difference is less fighting but they still hit hard. UAH Hockey is a blast to watch but it has to compete with a pro hockey team in the same building.

Women play ice hockey at some schools by essentially the same rules as for men. There is also field hockey as well as lacrosse played by women.

The city would probably do everything they could within reason to support any expansion of UAB athletics, including favorable rental contracts for the Legacy Arena.
Alabama doesn't even play at the BJCC. UAB fans are the best at putting carts before horses.
Any updates on scheduling? I've seen nothing new on their FB page
Do D1 ice hockey teams play a separate OOC schedule like is done in D1 basketball or do they mix the two in one season like is done in D1 football?

Right now, UAB has its hands full just playing its present list of sports, but in the next decade(s) it might be looking for additional ways to compete for national coverage and rankings.

D1 hockey conference games and OOC games are mixed throughout the season.

Here is the upcoming schedule for UAH hockey...

All non-conference games in October, except for a neutral site tournament in late December.

Never said they did and who gives a damn what they do any way? There are only two viable options to host hockey games. With UAB entering a contract to play football at the BJCC and a long history of basketball I'm sure a reasonable contract could be agreed upon. If you did it DI you do it big time. You don't half ass it. Hockey was / still is popular. There is a market if done correctly.

UAH plays it's games at the VBCC and it's an enjoyable environment. I think UAB doing big time hockey the right way would easily out draw UAH. We would do Birmingham a great disservice if we dreamed too little dreams

No point in playing anywhere other than Pelham as long as it is a club sport.
During a guided tour of the then new BJCC - back when the Bulls were playing - we were told the ice was kept intact year round except for when the circus came to B'ham. The circus needed to access tie-down points that had been installed per their instructions when the concrete floor was poured.

How many home ice games did the Bulls play? If UAB should get serious about ice hockey, would a similar number of games lead to the ice being kept intact for UAB as well?
UAB has played basketball over the ice before.
I saw on FB that they will be announcing more info/news on schedule & such Fri after noon
Thats 7 home games at Pelham (Bama and UAB make it their own home ice). Where is Auburn's home game played?
I'm glad they're playing as many games as they are but think we're playing LSU too many times though at home makes it better for us. There's bound to be someone else we could get in place of a couple of those games. I would assume that on UAT that 1 is home for us & 1 is home for them even w/ it being at the same place. I wonder if we'll play on their rink for their home game & they play on ours for our home game? 03-lmfao

Both UAB & UAT are listing both games as home games.

Technically that is true since we both play at PI. So will we be playing in the "Bryant Denny" rink or the "LF" rink? We are undefeated in our LF rink 03-lmfao
