Other than women's lacrosse, which didn't make it past the first round, did any other programs (men or women) make it to post season NCAA play?
some of the wrestlers did. I get its not exactly the same thing, but at least we have that.
I'm not certain but I think the answer is none for team play. Big decline in our program under Selig iMO.
Someone with a better memory please correct me if I'm wrong. Seems Selig said shortly after he got here that he wanted all of the programs to win at least 75% of their games and go to post season fairly regularly. Not sure of the number, just a paraphrase. Well, given a 75% benchmark, how is he doing so far, and is it still to early to draw conclusions? I'm not even sure how long he's been here.
As I see it we can't blame Wood Selig for basketball other than a hesitation to pull the firing trigger until he had full proof of BT's problem. Perhaps the former AD was an enabler to some degree but I have no proof to offer of it. I can't blame Selig for football since it has just come out of transition. The sack of Wendy Larry had more to it than just a W-L record (my source is a member of the administration, so I can't say more). As for baseball, we had a good year but pitching fell apart late.

However, if all of the above becomes chronic, then we can look to the AD as a reason (such as hires, etc.).

75 percent seems like a really ambitious goal for any program, unless you tank the scheduling. That's roughly 24-8 every basketball season, 9-3 every football season, 42-14 every baseball season. Does any D-1 school do that with regularity?

His comment was about being in the top quarter of the league standings. I'm pretty sure of that.

That is correct. Also, in the top quarter (not to be confused with Top 25...which I chronically do) nationally in all categories (e.g. academics/RPI/stats/etc.).
OK, I Knew it had something to do with Quarters. Sounds more reasonable. Given that parameter, how are we doing?
Were trying to be royal with cheese in all sports. I dig it and it ties into our old dominion heritage.

More reasonable, but still very ambitious. That's top 3-4 in every sport, top 2 in the East Division for football, and top 2 in soccer. It's a good goal but I can't imagine there's that many schools in Division 1 that can do that consistently unless they're in a big fish in a small conference like Gonzaga.
Ambitious? yes. Worth pursuing? definitely

Oh for sure, definitely pursue. But considering it a disappointment or failure if they don't reach that mark consistently might be a bridge too far. Football's still young, and the baseball and men's soccer conferences are pretty strong, along with MAC wrestling. Right now, how many sports should ODU be a slam-dunk top-quarter team? Men's basketball, maybe. Women's basketball, if they ever get their $hit together. After that, what, tennis? Ideally field hockey (I thought the Big East was better than it was, but last year it was UConn and a bunch of sub-mediocre teams).

A stretch goal, not an expectation, at least in 2016.

Yes, there is little growth when goals are set so low that thet are easily attained. I agree with your premise that expecting to reach this goal consistently, and I would add quickly, is a bridge too far.

I think Men's Soccer and Wrestling are the two sports which are closest, and I think MBB will be there soon.
Aim High!
You all are ridiculous. Finishing in the top 4 regularly should never be considered a bridge too far. Hell a coach who can't do that (football gets a pass for now) should be fired. Nobody is saying they have to finish top 4 Every year...just regularly. If not too four regularly, what do we aspire too? Sheesh.

And before you jump on me for my take, i know for a fact that there are people in the admin who are none too happy with the performance to budget ratio right now. I swear some of you would defend our programs if they were all in there bottom third of the conference.

The nail was hit on the head.
There's 14 schools in CUSA, all of whom presumably wish to finish in the top 25 percent in all sports all the time. At least 75 percent of those schools are guaranteed to not reach that mark. In reality, it'll be well over 90 percent because everyone has a weak link sport or three.

Being among the best in the conference at all sports should be a goal, if a stretch goal, but it's not reasonable to expect it. If you're hitting that mark consistently, perhaps that says more about your neighborhood than your house.

Or: If you're the star athlete, class valedictorian, class bully, class clown, prom king and prom queen, then perhaps you've outgrown being homeschooled.
