This article suggests that the MAC was VERY wise to extend their ESPN agreement when they did and got in at the 'high water mark.'
As those who follow both sports and business may know, ESPN has been trying to cut costs including cutting a lot of positions.
What seems to be happening is that ESPN, Fox, etc. are paying more for prime television sports (e.g., NFL, P5 conferences such as the B1G, etc.) and less for other sports and less desirable conferences.
