Oklahoma's Lon Kruger has hired Rice assistant Carlin Hartman, sources told ESPN. Has already hired his son, Kevin Kruger, for other spot.

Crap, but good for him

Understand the sentiment, but disagree. Good assistants get hired away all the time. If you're not losing personnel to upward mobility, then you aren't hiring good people in the first place.

Let's go find another good one.
I have to say this doesn't surprise me. For some reason, I sensed a disconnect between him and Rhoades on the sideline. Omar Mance was just hired as Director of Recruiting and Player Personnel at Vanderbilt - I wonder if he'd be interested in a true assistant coaching job instead of a bureaucratic one?
What is Brent's phone number?

That was my first thought. I personally didn't see any signs of disconnect or in talking with Carlin, but sitting by the bench as FBO does perhaps there was some. One thing for sure Carlin is in line for a big pay raise and probably more than what Collumbia was offering. Wish him nothing but the best and thank him for his contributions to Rice. I wonder if this started during the Final Four....
I wish Carlin success too. He's a good guy. And it doesn't surprise me if we lose other coaches. As someone else said, people realize we're making some major strides in the program.

Brent would be a good choice too - should thought of him right away.

I really hadn't thought he would be interested until his interview with JP and realized how much he was still emotionally connected to the program. One issue would be that of salary. I'm sure we are quite a few pay grades below TCU.
Great hire by Oklahoma. He deserves the upgrade. He has paid his dues. I think we will be surprised who coach Rhoades brings in to replace Coach Hartman since a lot of major programs will want Coach Rhoades in a few years.

It is a good sign. I hope we continue to hire great coaches and keep Rhoades here for a long time. In 20 years people can be talking about who came off the Rhoades coaching tree. 03-cloud9
Resuscitating this thread to highlight that Hartman is back in the news a bit for getting involved with helping form a new coaches' advocacy and activism group.
