Saw a tweet from Glenn Otto's uncle complaining about Texas A&M not offering his nephew. I didn't realize his uncle is John Otto, Representative of Texas District 18 and the Chair of the House Appropriations Committee.

Not the only famous uncle of a player on our squad. Jackson Parthasarathy's uncle is Richard Linklater of "Dazed and Confused" and "Everybody Wants Some" fame.

And Boyhood, which prominently fearners Houston and is one of the more interestingly filmed movies. Shot over the course of 10 years or so.

Boyhood - great movie. Prominently features Crestview in Austin too.

Anyone seen Everybody Wants Some?

The tweets...

#TexAgs As I sit watching my nephew pitch for Rice, I'm wondering why A&M did not recruit a 95 mph fastball and 83mph curve over the plate

Both pitchers for Rice last night wanted to pitch for A&M. Too bad my Aggies weren't interested. #billyliucci #TexAgs

Wow, Richard Linklater as your uncle is way way cooler than some pissy Aggie politician (sorry Glenn).

I saw an ad or something that referred to 'Everybody Wants Some' as 'Dazed and Confused' for the 80s. Thought it was just a ripoff, didn't realize it was actually Linklater... now I very much want to see it.
There is a similarity between the two as both uncles root for other teams besides Rice (Linklater is a big UT baseball guy - didn't he do a documentary on Garrido once?).
At some point all the guys probably know whether or not Rice was the first choice for each of their teammates, but you gotta wonder if Otto's uncle thought about how those tweets could make it a bit awkward for his nephew in the clubhouse if it wasn't know that Otto had wanted to go to A&M but wasn't recruited.
Well, I wanted to go to OU. sometimes it is a good thing not get what one wants.

Pretty tacky comments from the uncle, if you ask me.

It's also somewhat embarrassing that apparently we're taking folks A&M doesn't want. They haven't had nearly the baseball success we have over the past 20 years. But I suppose that's always been our MO - coach up players rather than pull the big star recruits.

Same with UT. See the recruiting thread. The problem is going to be TCU and UH.
Coolest uncle ever was Danny Lehman's - Dog Bounty Hunter. Meeting him and his entourage at Reckling during a Regional was rather surreal!

Sounds like another state politician that needs a Jesus shot.
Explain to me again why we are concerned about this?

All the ranting here seems petty. So Glenn's uncle is an Aggie. Not everyone can go to Rice. Do you expect him to quit being an Aggie because his nephew pitches for Rice?

I'm not embarrassed that our coaching staff has a better eye for underappreciated talent than some others.

It all depends on how the uncle uses his Twitter account. If this is his professional political account, then I don't want to hear comments about his sports preferences, especially those which reveal information that makes Rice look bad.

How would it look if, say, the mayor of Houston started Tweeting about athletes that wanted to go to Rice but didn't have high enough grades, and are now at, say, UH or some such??

Again, why would I care? Highlighting the tweet and complaining about it would just give it more credence/longevity that it deserved.
