Turned down other jobs to stay at Kent. Dream is to go back and be the head coach at Kent. Takes job at Toledo. Games against Kent will be interesting.

Hope he stays longer than the last former Kent player who was an assistant.
He loves Kent and wants to be their head coach. Sounds like he's excited to be on the Toledo staff. Reminds me of that guy from bg that bailed out and went back to bg.
Maybe this will bookend MacDonald taking a job at Kent and 36 seasons without a tourney championship
I like the hire a lot! Haynes is a former Player of the Year in the MAC who was a tough "on ball" defensive player who will hopefully bring that expertise and attitude to the Rockets. He is the all time "steals" and assist leader at Kent State. In addition, being a former MAC player and assistant coach, he knows this league inside and out so the transition should be easy. No knock on Nick Dials, but Haynes is major upgrade coaching experience wise!

That was Anthony Stacey. He took the high road and consequently all the negative publicity for leaving after a short stay. Don't know if he would have had a positive impact or not, but he left for reasons that were based on how he viewed what was going on and what he was not willing to tolerate.

Couldn't tolerate the sheer Rocketness of his surroundings.

I think it had to do something with him getting a divorce or something like that? Couldn't tolerate the sheer Rocketness of his surroundings. Is highly likely

Interesting thought!
Moto makes some version of this post w all its vague allusions every time there is a thread about the men's bball staff.
Should we call him Coach Hayne$ since he left his alma mater to come to Toledo because he will be paid $20k-$30k more?

I promised my friend (who is in the BG HOF) and friends with Stacey that I would not repeat what Stacey told him. He knows I am a big Toledo fan and he started the conversation off by asking what Toledo fans thought of the Toledo coach. He mentioned a friend of his had worked for him and right away I knew who he was talking about. He gave me some insight on what happened and asked that I not repeat anything. It was nothing disparaging, just a different way of interacting with players than he was used to both as a player and a coach. That's about as much as I think appropriate to say about it.
Stacey played for Dakich, who by accounts of several BG friends, was a foul-mouthed misogynist who's idea of motivation was calling guys "pvssy". I suspect Stacey could have managed Coach K's style. Nevertheless, dude's gone.....

So now we're going to be taking the word of a BG player that's backed out of a number of jobs?

How about the Olympic wrestling trials last weekend!!!

That's kind of worrisome.
