WVTM reported at 6:30pm that ESPN is reporting the UAB search has been narrowed down to Eshan and Person.

I'm really hoping for Ehsan if this the case.

Completely speculation and wild thinking, but what if Ehsan has a great 3-4 years at UAB and gets a great offer at a P5 school, while Haase doesn't make it at Stanford? Ehsan then hires Haase as an assistant. Could that be a backup plan of Haase? I seriously doubt it, as good coaches don't plan to fail, but its a fun thought anyway.
#1 - ESPN can't know that the search has been narrowed. Someone from ESPN speculated it had been.
#2 - WVTM should verify stuff before reporting it.

So fun.
if true...i solidly throw my support behind Ehsan
Between those 2 one would think it is a no brainer.
They may end up being right but when only 2 have been interviewed & they're who they're saying it's been narrowed down to, it's pretty hard to not guess right - not much actual reporting work put into that by ESPN nor NBC13. Either would be ok with me

ESPN is not reporting that. Jeff Goodman responded to a tweet that Person was going to be interviewed by saying "Looks like UAB is deciding between Ehsan and Person". If that is considered "reporting" then journalism has really gone to crap.

WVTM is the local station. They should actually do something themselves before taking a speculation tweet as reporting.

If it is true that it is down to those two, then one of two things is happening.

1. Ehsan was the choice all along and Ingram wanted to give the impression that a search was made.

2. Person was the choice all along and Ingram wanted to give the impression a search was made.

Given those choices, I would go with Ehsan even if he hadn't been at UAB for four years.

Person has been an assistant in the NBA for many years. NBA assistants do not have a lot of power over the team or organization. There are a ton of assistants per NBA team. Just because he has been an assistant in the NBA doesn't mean he Han run a team or recruit. Even his two years of experience at Auburn is diminished when you work for a dynamo like Pearl.
Pearl runs the show. You are just along for the ride.
Also it appears every NBA team person has been an assistant at has been pretty crappy. Every college team he has been an assistant at has been crappy.

What exactly is his pluses other than name recognition in the state.

He was Rookie of the Year when he started with the Pacers. The Spurs were decent when he was a player there. He got an NBA Championship ring coaching under Phil Jackson with the Lakers.

That's about it from what I can tell.

He was coaching for a Korean basketball team when Pearl hired him. Very odd.

Maybe Pearl was forced to hire him...

It would be a severe setback if Person was selected over Eshan.
Scarbinsky would be happy, but it would pretty much set us back several years.

There would have to be more qualified people than Person out there.
I find it hard to believe it's been narrowed down to these two this quickly, unless this "search" was a charade to begin with and Ingram already had his mind made up. If that's the case I think Ehsan is the guy.

I'd be good with either of these two, but I'd prefer Rob because of the stability and continuity. I think Chuck has the potential to be a very good coach but Rob is less of a risk, IMO.
Find it weird they only interviewed two people and Ingram spoke about how he's had a bunch of phone calls from people interested in the position.
Does Ingram have a previous connection with Person?

They didn't only interview two people...this report is full of ****.

from what I read, Person & his handlers contacted Ingram.
& ingram wouldn't go to Houston just to interview Person.

There are other contacts that will be made.

Again, in the report that the search is down to two is based on a throwaway tweet by Jeff Goodman. ESPN is not "reporting it".

Played in the SEC!!! That's worth gold.

It really surprises me that channel 13 was trying to be on top of it. They're frequently tweeting stories that are 2-3 days old.
