Full Version: Rocket should sign UM's Ricky Doyle

Getting a 6-9 guy who is a solid post player should be a priority for Coach K right now...having him sit out a year would provide an outstanding post player, something we clearly need, after Zach Garber graduates next year.

Doubt this will happen, but UT really needs more "bigs" and more athleticism throughout the roster.
I'm sure every MAC and smaller Florida school is going after him, but I agree that he would fit in with the Rockets. He would be eligible the year after Garber graduates and would have two years remaining. When Doyle's eligible, Adway would also have two year remaining and Knapke would have three. The frontcourt definitely needs to be addressed with the Class of 2017 recruits if it's not addressed by transfers first.
If Adway were in TKs plans he would have been redshirted.

Diagree I think he thought he was going to need him and Navigato and Garber both played better than he expected.
adway got a look as a starter early, he just struggled playing his game at the speed of the college game and with garber and navigato improving at a faster rate slipped down the bench. i wouldn't be surprised to see taylor make the typical big jump in adjustment from yr 1 to yr 2 and be a contributor next season
We need Adway in our plans. Kid has some serious hops and it looks like he's ready to throw down the hammer at any given time. Now if he can take it to the hole to make that happen, that's to be determined. But every team needs a JD Weatherspoon to wow the crowd from time to time (hopefully they're also able to play defense).

Agree about JD. Those great Nichols' teams had....uh, there was, well, remember uh... hmmmm...OK, I guess you can win with guys like Swaney, Cole, Selgo and Knuckles who don't have the Wow factor.

There's a couple wow factors amongst that list.

Fans come away from games with memories of moments and so do teams. It's nice to have certain playing personalities (Lauf) as well as skills. IC16 seems familiar with Adway's game, he could have a point.

Not Weatherspoon Wow factor, even if Nichols would have allowed it. Adway doesn't have that either. Nor do 98% of college players. Maybe Adway is the closest thing we have now that Boothe is gone(the JJ pass on the fast break for the dunk and the reverse dunk off the baseline drive were definitely wowsers but he couldn't do it like JD). Kent and Amos had it pretty much and were on some very bad teams. Adway needs skill and control before he'll be an asset. Hopefully, that's moving forward as we keyboard.
Redshirting Adway would have been tough this year since it would have left us with only nine scholarship players. Still, the complete lack of playing time does make you wonder about the kid's future with the program. TK used a very short bench this year - basically seven-and-a-half players (Rogers being the half). TK clearly lacked confidence in Rogers, White, and Adway. I agree with others, though, that Adway's pregame dunks make me want to see him get on the court when it matters.

once Adway appeared in 20% of the games he could not redshirt. (note: I don't know how many he actually played in ....)

I think that applies only to medical redshirts. For a non-medical redshirt, the player cannot play at all.

Yep
Adway is very raw. He is very athletic and has some skill. However, when he did get playing time, you could tell he was thinking about where he needed to be on the court and what he should be doing.
