Hopefully they are realizing only six Games on NYE and NYD was a bad idea.

Old Gator (Jax) and Old Citrus (Orl) will be played on NYE along with Fiesta and Peach. Outback will be lead in for Rose and Sugar. Would love to see them add an 11am NYD (Jan 2) like Belk, Music or Liberty. Back to at least 4-5 games those days. I use to love going to Peach or Gator bowl and celebrating NYE in the host city. Feel bad for younger fans who really no longer get that experience.

I wish they consider putitng some of the G5 bowls on these days as well, those turn out to be better games to watch.

Outback will be one of the games on Jan. 2 before the Rose and Sugar. The Cotton Bowl (which will have the "access" team this year) is also set for the pre-Rose time slot.

The "news" in today's announcements is that the BWW Citrus (fka Capital One) game will be played on Dec. 31 instead of its usual pre-Rose Bowl time slot, maybe to take advantage of the Orange Bowl being moved to prime time on Dec. 30.
It's only because NYD is a Sunday this year. I'd fully expect both Outback and Citrus to be back on NYD next year.... Also NYD last year didn't have just 3 games, Outback and Citrus both played on NYD as well.....

this year will be the really interesting year. It's the first one with only the 1 at large spot..... For ACC, Big 12, Pac 12- if their champ doesn't get into the playoffs, their 2nd team would need to be ahead of ND, or 2nd/3rd team from SEC, Big Ten.

Just looking at the projected matchups this year- taking ESPN's post signing day top 25...
Peach- 1 Alabama vs 4 Baylor
Fiesta- 2 Florida St vs 3 Michigan
Cotton- 11 Houston vs 12 Tennessee
Orange- 5 Clemson vs 9 Notre Dame
Sugar- 6 LSU vs 7 Oklahoma
Rose- 8 Stanford vs 10 Ohio St
The playoff bowls should be played after all other bowls are played. It was kind of anticlimactic last year playing bowl games the day after the playoffs.

Actually, the "news" is the Gator Bowl is moving to New Year's Eve. This is an additional game. Remember the only games to be played were the NY6 and Orlando and Tampa on NYD. I think this is a bone thrown to the ACC to ensure there is at least one team playing these two days. Remember, the Gator has used 2 of the 3 Big Ten teams. They have to take 3 ACC/ND in the next 4 years. In addition, the ACC gets a B10 slot for Orlando if the B10 plays the ACC in the Orange. That is why it would not shock me to see an 11am game NYD. The goal for Pin Stripe was to be a NYD bowl. It would be perfect for that slot along with Liberty, Music and Belk.
Citrus moving is a big deal. That surprises me a lot. It had higher ratings than several BCS bowls in that timeslot.

The game being on the 2nd is a killer though. Ratings for games on 1/2(when NYD is Sunday) are way off normally.
2010- 6.8 rating
2011- 4.3 rating
2012- 2.86 rating
2013- 6.6 rating

So totally can see why they would do this. Next year they'll be back on NYD.
I agree, next year is extremely friendly to the CFP. Probably same schedule as first year for NYD. With Dec 31 on Sunday. Saturday the 30th will probably be Peach 1, Fiesta 5:00 and Orange 9. Maybe have Gator like bowl on at 11am on ESPN/ABC, more conducive to ratings.

I think it'll be more like Peach 12, Fiesta 4, Orange 8.

Go Bulls indeed, but ... I have trepidation about this coming year. Seems like every time in the past that there have been high expectations for us, we've crapped the bed. Fingers crossed ...

Just look at the fact that the American Champion will get that Access Slot more years than not...as was IMO the intention...07-coffee3
AAC will have access to 4 or 5 quality bowl next season...

Access Bowl (Fiesta or Peach)
Birmingham Bowl, Birmingham, Ala. – vs. SEC
St. Petersburg Bowl, St. Petersburg, Fla. – vs. ACC
Armed Forces Bowl, Fort Worth, Texas – vs. Big 12
Military Bowl, Annapolis, Md. – vs. ACC

are you talking 2016 season or 2017 season? because if it's 2016 season, it's 100% guaranteed to be the Cotton Bowl(only Access bowl out there this season)

Military Bowl, Annapolis, Md. – vs. ACC

This is the year most teams with smallest at-large spots.
Peach & Fiesta (Semis) (Assuming all from P5)
Rose (B1G vs Pac 14)
Orange (ACC vs B1G/SEC/ND)
Sugar (B12 vs SEC)
Cotton (G5 vs At-Large)

Will the ACC and B12 have enough teams will be the main questions. St. Pete is ACC last bowl filled and AF is last B12 bowl filled. This is the year the ACC has up possible 13 bowl slots for 15 teams including ND.

(Assuming sending to two to CFP/ACCESS as in the past two years)
1 CFP Spot or Access (Figure only 1 of these)
2 Orange
3 BWW Orlando (If B10 gets the opponent slot against the ACC)
4 Champs Orlando
5-8 Belk, Sun, Pinstripe, Gator/Music

9 - 11 Military, Indy, Detroit
12 St. Pete (Last Bowl to get an ACC Team)
13 Birmingham Backup for (SEC & AAC)

I think it will be tight for the ACC.

Five Locks FSU, Clemson, Louisville, ND, VT
Eight with 50%/50% Duke, NCSU, UNC, Wake, BC, Gt, Miami, UVA,
Two <50 Syracuse, Pitt,
The thing for the ACC- like the Big 12 and Pac 12- if their champion doesn't make the playoff, it's going to be hard for them to get a 2nd team in the access bowl. This is the worst year for that quite frankly....

The Orange Opponent race from the poll I used:
Notre Dame 9
Tennessee 12
Ole Miss 13
Mich St 14

So for ACC to get team into Orlando- Mich St would need to be 6 spots higher.

So can't just assume that there are 13 slots. It just as easily could be 11 spots for the ACC.

sorry, I made that list last season when it was Peach or Fiesta just to have an idea of the AAC bowls this season...you're correct, it's Cotton Bowl.

I agree. 13 is the most optimistic scenario. 11 could also easily happen. I am more worried about the B12 filling their slot in Armed Forces Bowl, quite frankly. The ACC was short of bowls and had to go into the at large pool last year.
Hardest part for the American is overcoming BSU. If there isn't a dominant team in the American, and the winner loses a conference game, then the access bowl slot is gone. It's a risk, but was probably the best deal Aresco could swing at the time.

Perhaps at some point the American can get an anchor bowl slot of its own....
