Oakland 2015-2016 Schedule

Oakland 2015-2016 Roster

Oakland Message Board
This is a team that's about 18 points better than Green Bay. Gonna be a tough game.
Such sloppy play at times last night. I hope there is better ball control tonight. Still was impressed by the guys coming out of the gate with amazing enthusiasm. I was concerned the time off would cause problems there. Keep it going tonight guys!

I'm also already in dire need of a nap. Gonna pump up on caffeine and sugar to get through the morning and maybe take a couple hours off work after lunch. I'm too old for these late nights I think. LOL
Mercy, can we not get a decent game time with only two games on the schedule tonight?

It's the crappy fun of time zones. I'm glad I'm not a super fan of any teams out west. I'd have to move back out there. I think it's the west coast's revenge on us for getting to see all the TV shows first.

But if you go back and look they also beat Green Bay by 16 on the road.. three days after losing to Northern Kentucky by 17 at home.
of course they won the rematch on the road by 11.
I think it will be a tough game but I don't think we are out classed in anyway.

I agree with Rod. Should be a close game, but if our guys can pour super glue on their hands and keep the ball more, we could do well.
This team belongs to 5’9” 176 Junior dynamo Kahlil (Kay) Felder, who is only Number One in the nation with 9.3 assists and 4th in points per game with 24.2. Get this stat line: 36.7 minutes, 24.2 points on .439 and .358 from 3 (2.2 per game); 4.2 rebounds, 9.3 assists!!!, 3.1 t.o.’s, and 2 steals. Petey McClain and Ge’lawn Guyn, and anybody else who can lend a hand, you have your work cut out for you.

They are only the Number One scoring team in the country with an 86.4 average, holding opponents to 78.7. Anybody like run and gun games? http://www.ncaa.com/stats/basketball-men...t/team/145

They are knock down 3 point shooters averaging 8.8 per game on .395. They allow 7.9 three’s on .347.

Rotation is short – only 7 guys get over 8.8 minutes per game. Only good athletes can maintain this pace with a 7 man rotation. Assist to t.o. ratio is 1.35, 42nd in the country. T.O. margin is + 0.6; steals 5.9. Sounds like not so much a chaos approach with a ton of turnovers and steals – they just outpace, outshoot and outscore you.

They are also good rebounders, beating opponents 39.5 to 36.5.

They are .769 from the free throw line with nobody worse than .695.

As Fan1 says, they stomped Greenbay and should be a tough opponent – but fun to watch.

Guards:
Kay Felder 5-9 176 Jr.; 36.7 min., 24.2 ppg on 2.2 three’s at .358, 4.2 rebounds, 9.3 assists, 3.1 t.o.’s, 2.0 steals
Martez Walker 6-6 185 Rs So.; 23.4 min., 10.8 ppg on 1.0 three’s at .435, 3.5 rebounds
Max Hooper 6-6 201 Rs Sr.; 24.5 min., 10.3 ppg on 3.2 three’s at .445, 1.7 rebounds
Nick Daniels 6-1 160 Rs So.; 20.2 min., 6.5 ppg on 1.3 three’s at .376, 2.5 rebounds, 0.7 steals

Front Court:
Jalen Hayes 6-7 211 Rs So.; 31.0 min., 13.8 ppg, only 3 made three’s on .333, 8.8 rebounds, 0.5 blocks, 1.0 steal
Percy Gibson 6-9 271 Rs Sr.; 22.2 min., 11.1 ppg, 1 made three, 6.4 rebounds, 1 block
Sherron Dorsey-Walker 6-4 200 Rs Jr.; 24.9 min., 6.7 ppg, 0.9 three’s on .357, 5.1 rebounds

Little used 6-7 257 Freshman Xavier Hill-Mais (season average of 8.8 min., 2.8 points, 2.1 rebounds) played 22 minutes against Towson, scoring a career high 16 points with 3 rebounds and 1 steal. They’ve definitely got some muscle inside, which they used effectively against Towson.
Oakland took Michigan State into OT earlier in the year. Should be a tough game. Although I like our chances if Ge'Lawn keeps his hot shooting up and Jurkin plays at a high level again. One flaw from last nights game was our transition defense, that needs to improve since it looks like Oakland likes to run, we also need to take better care of the ball.
Love Ge'Lawn, but we can't expect him to keep scoring 30+. Need others to step it up offensively, Bello, Wilson et al. Still would like to see us press more these last few games.
Bello seemed a bit spastic last night. He made a few decent plays, but he also just seemed like he couldn't find his mojo or something. Wilson lacked enthusiasm overall. I've seen that expression at a few games in the past and it usually appeared to be related to pain? Maybe he's got another injury? Bradford finally started getting into his swing, but pretty late in the game. If he, Bello, TJ and Ge'Lawn could all three be firing on all cylinders, we've could have something great tonight.

Has anyone heard if Petey is ok today?

Thought the same thing. Bello had two opportunities for a fastbreak dunk but lost the handle on the ball both times. Also bricked several FT's.
Oakland -6
I think Oakland, Northern Illinois and ETSU are the 3 best teams in the tournament. NIU is gone so the Oakland/ETSU winner will most likely win tomorrow as well.
any word on Petey? He left with an injury of some sort and didn't come back in. Forbes didn't say anything about and Jay didn't ask. But I figured that was why Wilson was still in the game late even though he kept fouling/playing awful defense.
Oakland has been one of my favorite mid-majors this year. This team plays fast, scores by the bucketful and shoots just under 40% from beyond the arc. The slightest lapse on defense will wind up in the basket, and if you foul them, they will punish you at the line, too. All of their starters are north of 70% from the stripe.

There are plenty of threats - Max Hooper is a particularly intriguing one, since he's a 6'6" guard who only takes threes - but the big one is obviously Kay Felder. Volume scorer or no, he still hung up 38 on Washington, 37 on Michigan State, and 30 on Virginia. If those teams can't contain him, it's tough to see us having much hope, though the Wahoos may have found the key to success: just let him shoot. He took 22 of his team's 51 shots against Virginia, but he shot 45%, nobody else scored in doubles, and Virginia won by 14. We might be able to get by with a mismatch on Felder if we can shut down everyone else, but that's risky if our offense runs dry.

I think Guyn is the match-up for Felder. Aside from the his size and athleticism on defense, Guyn can attack him off the dribble and take advantage of Felder's sloppy defense to get to the line for easy points - Felder has 5 DQs this season, most of any Golden Grizzly. Alternately, stick Petey (if he plays) on Felder and just shadow him the whole game, even when ETSU has the ball. Don't let him or anyone else get into a rhythm shooting the ball, or it'll be a very long night.

I'd say Oakland by 8 or 10 points.
A public currently similar to ETSU in number of ways, but historically, unrelated.

Felder will get his buckets - He's a more skilled, athletic version of Tim Smith with Mister-like vision.

Still, I like our chances in the game. If we win the war on the glass, especially second-chance buckets, we win this game. I also think we also need another big game from Jurkin. He's really emerged the last few games and given a glimpse of his potential.
ODU to the championship game.
Jurkin starting.
