I hate to hear this. I think he should try and stay at least 2 or 3 seasons. This would be strictly a money deal as I don't see UNLV as any kind of marquee team at this point. Did anyone ever hear anything about Chase meeting with Coach Beard this past week?Seems that chase deserves a chance to work it out as he gave Coach Beard a chance and took lots of flak for doing so

Yes I had heard that it was between Chris and the New Mexico State coach. I guess we should hear something soon.
Lets go ahead and get this over here now just in case:

The 5 stages of a fan base during the coaching merry go round:

1. Denial: " That report he's looking at X job can't be right. They are mediocre at best, and he won't be able to win there. Surely he's just trying for a raise here. We need to get our AD on the phone stat and make sure we get this new contract locked up so he'll stay here for a while. His kids go to school here, he doesn't actually want to move. Just get the raise and go on to recruiting"

2. Anger: "Well *Bleep* him. I hope he goes to X Location and rots. Maybe he gets into 12 NCAA Violations as well and loses his job, then he'll look back and wonder why he didn't stay here when he had the chance. Lets schedule them and beat their brains in a few times. Oh, and I hope his wife leaves him too."

3. Conspiracy Theories: He probably was asked to leave because AD X knows that Coach Y is ready to come home and coach here. Yeah, School X is taking him off our hands for us. I should go on their message board and thank them." (Or, if the team sucks) "He probably left because we've got NCAA violations coming and he doesn't want to be around for it. I think the NCAA may give us the death penalty this time. We might thank them if they do"

4. Obscene rumors: "My friend at the barber shop's cousin's grandpa is a booster, and he says we're going to hire (Insert name of local High School coach here) He says that man is a proven winner and is ready to step up. Meanwhile, I'm going to get on flight aware and track every single flight out of X airport. Hey, we've got a flight to Madison, WI. OH MY GOD, WE'RE GOING TO HIRE BO RYAN! I have all these names that I think would be great coaches here, I'm going to go look them up and offer up a profile on each of them for the board. OH MY GOD, IT'S BEEN 4 WHOLE DAYS SINCE COACH X LEFT, AND NO HIRE HAS BEEN MADE! WHY IS IT TAKING SO LONG? Please Lord, let us not hire (Insert Former Razorback coach here) We don't need any pig rejects.

5. Acceptance: " We have an outstanding AD, who is very good at his job. I am positive he's going to make the right decision." "See, Here, he's finally hired Coach Y. Hey, he's an outstanding coach, look at all this success he's had. Man, this is going to be a fun next season, I'm going to go ahead and reserve my season tickets now, and go troll our biggest rival about how we're going to dominate them next season. I can't wait till (Insert Sport) Season now!"
Well this is interesting. For example, his children don't go to school here. He doesn't have a wife. and even if he leaves, I think most of us are thankful for the wonderful year he gave the program. I sure don't want him to leave this soon, but if he does, hopefully we can build on this season's success. I know your post was meant to be humorous, and it was clever. There will be some who will feel betrayed, but business is business. If he can parlay this into a really big job, financially, you can't blame him. I'm still hoping he'll remain at least one more season. But if he doesn't then Chasse will have to do his magic again.

I didn't pretend to research anything on Beard, rather just copied and pasted what our board went through in football and summarized.

We all said we wouldn't hate Freeze if he left. Then he had a really awkward postgame interview in which he wouldn't commit to stay, and fans decided they hated him. Then he helped us hire Gus Malzahn, and we liked him again, then Malzahn bolted and we went back to hating both of them.
As bad I I would feel if he left you can imagine how the players will feel. They know they have several starters and significant contributors coming back and should be quite good next year. Beard absolutely looks like the real deal but he's got a pretty damn good group of players here. If he goes somewhere it could be tough sledding for a couple of years.
The sage that posts on the private board for told of this after the press conference that hired him......

Of course I, and everybody else, hopes that Coach Beard sticks around for at least another year. But if he doesn't and accepts a UNLV offer, he certainly will have left the program better off than he found it. And I don't see the hate thing happening that the ASU fan is talking about. If Coach Beard is made an offer that quadruples his salary from a Mountain West outfit like UNLV, although we would prefer a different answer, who would hold a grudge? Why? If that occurs, then we just trust Chase to make another good pick and keep moving the program forward. Go Little Rock!
hate to see him go but the program is in good shape after a year.

The next guy would come into a team that was upper classmen and setup to win.
That's assuming everyone stays and our signees stay signed.

Absolutely. If he leaves today, I wish him well. What he did here is something I'll never forget, and I trust that Chase will make another good choice. Maybe even Derek Fisher might be candidate. I hope you stay Coach Beard, but if you do leave, I'll still always appreciate what you did here. Good luck whatever you do.

Don't know about the signees, but most of the others would have few options. But let's not even worry about that until we know whether it will be relevant.

Plenty of options for Mareik, Kemi, Stetson and maybe others with senior transfer rule. No one holds signees to their commitment, these days, if coach leaves. Underclassman always have options (we don't have many of those). I agree the transfers who sat out have few options. Rising seniors, who haven't graduated have few options.

I assume he kept Eddie Fogler's phone number. Maybe Coach Fogler can pull another rabbit out of the hat.

Signees and commitments are different things.

A Signee has already signed an NLI, and if he does choose to get out of his NLI, he would have to sit out a season to do it.

Bingo, they are in their last year and won the year before, so why move even if they hire me?

These days most new coaches don't force signees to stay if they don't want to and grant them releases. If they don't the national press picks it up and it looks bad for the coach and school.

Since our signees are AR kids they might just choose to stay.
