Since spring practice has started, what have been the early impressions on the new coaches? From the few articles I read the quotes from ECU players are highly encouraging.

This doesn't answer your question at all, but I get the feeling from reading Coach Montgomery's quotes that he is surprised at the level of talent we have on the roster. Maybe I'm reading too much into it.

But stuff like...

"We're ahead of where I thought we would be, especially with the level of physicality I've seen so far," Montgomery said. "We just need to keep putting it together. We definitely have some playmakers, both on the offensive and defensive side of the ball and that's obviously a good sign."

...seems encouraging, especially since my initial impression of Montgomery was that he wasn't going to hand out praise as freely as Ruffin did.
I think some of the coaching hires have been a bit overrated but I guess we just have to wait and see.

I dunno about overrated. If you're going to get an offensive guy, then you can't go wrong with the Oregon OC or Arizona States (under Todd Graham). I really feel good about those hires.

That being said... Willie Fritz may prove to be the gem of the group. He's gotten it done everywhere.

That's also really telling of Ruff to be honest. Means he underperformed (we knew this), made dumb coaching mistakes that cost us games (we knew this), and lost the team (we have some evidence of this plus some hinty quotes).

Coach Mo likely thought it was going to involve more rebuilding that what is actually needed.

Tubbs qualifies as new since he hasn't actually started coaching or recruiting for UC yet. I think he's still gauging things.

Frost wasn't a splash hire IMO. He's been in some good places in his life but still making a name for himself. Understandable why you wouldn't have known immediately who he was.
something surprising to me not football related is how Coach Mo isn't remotely social media savy or great with media at all

i expected him to be similar to herman in the social media/marketing setting seeing how young he is and connecting to the players that way..but after watching a few interviews with him and seeing how he has zero social media presence (ruff was better at social media)..ive noticed he has a old school coaches mentality..and relates more to them than the younger guys
13-0 for all of them

if he had any remote ties to florida id have given the hire a A++...but outside of that for the AAC standard it doesn't get much splashier than that

we aren't stealing any big name coaches from big schools

frost was #2 for the nebraska job 2 years ago..

Hmmmm...not sure I see how you derived at this. My brother, a NC State alum, followed other ACC programs religiously...especially recruiting. While he wasn't high on Coach Mo's OC abilities (wasn't low either), he said that in AAC land Coach Mo was seen as a fierce recruiter. Just my brother's observation but it appears some people's perception is that he is very good with the kids today.

Splash hire = Household name in Average Joe's house

Frost is not there. He may very well become that guy...but he ain't there yet.

I think that may be a good thing. He would be quick to restrict social media access if needed. Pros and amateurs alike have gotten in trouble due to social media posts and it's only happening more often.

Exactly what criteria could an AAC ever make a splash hire? Frost passed on Syracuse for UCF and we offered him more money vs Syracuse at $1.3 million. Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher might be one of the real household names so we would have to steal them for your criteria.
