"Because of this, I let Dan Guerrero know that I wanted to return the one-year contract extension I received after the 2013-14 season. This request has since been processed. At the end of the day, year three was clearly not up to UCLA standards. My coaching staff and I fell short not only of our own expectations, but the expectations of Dan, the Chancellor and you, our fans. As a coaching staff, we intend to earn that extension back."

He's a good guy......blah, blah, blah......
As I posted in the other thread--I would love for Josh to say the same words and in doing so I would gain lots of respect for him. Instead he acts like nothing is his fault and the fans stink.
So, by giving up one year of his extension, his buyout will only be $7.8 million after next season instead of $10 million. A tough buyout, but UCLA shouldn't have any trouble raising that much.

Steve Alford has SO MUCH MORE SUCCESS than JP

Don't go there with him being the GOOD GUY..

Josh will just get mad because he didn't think of doing something like this before Alford did

Alford is 100x the coach JP is so why don't we all agree to say....

Nice move by Steve Alford and appreciate his loyalty to his bosses
Interesting. That ain't happening here though. It's obvious by Pastner's comments. And can't say I blame him there. Alford's is an extraordinary gesture.

How about a switch, and we pay Josh's 4th year?
This takes confidence and genuine desire to perform at high standards. So many people today just want to take. I mentioned Bobby Knight returning his salary after under performing. A lot of people talk about integrity and very few have it. I used to think CJP had it, he demands so much from18-22 year olds that I figured he held himself to similar standards. I don't know, because all I've heard are excuses. Maybe he will one day he will turn it around. It's not like he only has 4 years to get it done, and apparently the buck stops with Josh, at least 10 million or so of them. We have the most overpaid coach who apparently has no performance standard set for himself, and no accountability determined in wins or losses. I predict that it will be season ticket holders who ultimately bench Pastner. I don't see how we can continue to lose at the rate we are losing and someone not say "take a seat on the bench kid". Heck I like Josh, I really do, but he is far more disappointing than, well, any 18-22 that has played for him. One thing I'll give Josh credit for, he apparently runs a "technically" clean program. I get it that this is a must for our BCS hopes, and not just an excuse, I just hope the folks shelling out the money have weighed it all out correctly. I may or may not buy tickets next year, I hope CJP and our power players are right and 10,000 Tiger basketball fans are wrong. Maybe we should ask an expert like Woloshin? He has been the voice of the Tigers a long time, so we know we will not settle for mediocrity, at least not for long.
Alford also has his team in a much better position than Pastner does going into next season. He has a top 10 recruiting class. We have... One commit and a juco.
Big difference. Alford acknowledged his shortcoming this past season. Josh actually thinks he is doing a good to great job and one that the fanbase should recognize based on our program's history.

Just flipped to Josh Pastner show. He said with KJ Lawson, would have won four or five more games. Sigh. Not exactly Alfordesque.

Yeah and if the rabbit hadn't stopped to **** he'd have won the race.
Josh isn't a good person. I wouldn't expect him to do something like this.

Sure he has done some PR to help build a good guy image, but it is bull@#$@. He exposed himself as being a 2 faced liar with recruits when he took the Memphis job.

Pretty amazing that a sitting head coach is allowed to troll his own fanbase on a regular basis.
Pastner should do this again...it would be great PR for him, get a few folks off his back, and wouldn't require him to admit failure...it's just 'charity'

Quote:Memphis announced on Thursday that the 36-year-old fifth-year Tigers coach donated $250,000 toward the university's athletic department.

“Josh's gift is the largest ever made by a Memphis coach and will be used for sport enhancements and improvements," Memphis AD Tom Bowen said.

That's what happens when he carries all the cards.
people's true colors show when they are in a position of power

when they have all the leverage.

CJP is a scumbag....
The bottom line is that he better enjoy the next four years because he won't ever have this again. Burn that bridge Josh

YEP. If you listen to josh, he does not think he's doing a bad job. He thinks the lack of post season and losses are due to circumstantial/external factors (players, transfers, fan support, lack of mindfulness, butterfly effect, etc)
