Quote:Bass Pro Shops at The Pyramid logged $44.6 million in sales in its first nine months and paid $875,621 in rent to the city of Memphis, city records show.

The store’s best month was June, when it bagged $7.1 million, and the slowest was November, $3.38 million, according to gross sales reports.

Bass Pro is required to file gross sales reports under a 55-year lease on the city-owned former sports and entertainment arena...

Bass Pro Shops opened the superstore and tourist attraction last April 29 with great fanfare. The opening capped a nearly decade long project that was aided by direct city expenditures of at least $105 million.

Bass Pro has periodically issued updates on store visitor numbers — it reached 2 million before Christmas — but hasn’t commented on sales.

I wonder how that compares to other BPS stores and how much the Summer store has been affected (and how much sales tax revenue has gone down there).
I got up to the observation deck for the first time during Christmas. Very impressive.

the store over on Macon has a nice set up with Colonial Hardware and Tops BBQ in the same lot...I just wish they would tear down those 40 buck motels across the street and just make it parking for the Southwest kids.

I worked at one of those hotels a while back. The rate was $99 a night over fifteen years ago. It was a nice middle priced hotel for people who can't afford the Peabody.

Memphis needs all the hotel rooms it can get.

You'll be glad you know about those hotels when you actually get an old lady and decide to step out on her.

a friend of mine used to work there and said they got a sweetheart deal on that place when the Walmart (or was it K-Mart?) moved out...as long as that hasn't changed, I'm sure it turns a profit, and I doubt they close it.

I didn't work at Super 8. And Super 8 is a national chain that is low priced.

There are ten or so hotels in that area (including Sycamore View/Shelby Oaks) and a couple are two star hotels.
I heard months ago the Pyramid store is more like a tourist attraction since it has opened but the Macon store sales have gone up big time. That area is becoming a rough area of town. The putt putt/go cart place closed years ago and has been idle for a long time.

We were there last summer and went up to the restaurant and observation deck. We wanted to come back the next morning for breakfast on our way out of town but they don't serve breakfast in that restaurant.

Something like that should have been up there all those years the Tigers were in The Pyramid.

I am glad they are doing well but it doesn't surprise me.

They just built a huge one at I30/I430 west of Little Rock.

I
That's been open two years and it's relatively small for a BPS.

Mr. Bass Pro wants to buy out Cabelas.

Isn't it the anchor for a large development? I guess I've only been back a few times the past two years, still seems new to me.

no, I said "I just wish they would tear down those 40 buck motels across the street"

across the street from that mall is Macon Cv and Sycamore View...there are 2 hotels there...the Super 8 that's 51 online and has the '49.99 cash' sign...and a dump of a hotel that doesn't have a website and advertises for 45 bucks cash. (the old 'celebration station' needs to go too)

those are the 2 hotels I'm talking about..."(including Sycamore View/Shelby Oaks)" that area is past the interstate on sycamore view, that's not what I was talking about.

Yeah, it is indeed ugly to see that abandoned Celebration Station as it is so visible from I-40.

I hope that the huge Putt-Putt on Summer is doing OK. I do fear that it could be in decline.

I hit golf balls there every once in a while. It's packed with kids every weekend. I think it's doing well.

Fairfield Inn, Memphis Inn, Budgetel Inn, Super 8, Econolodge, Quality Inn, LaQuinta, Days Inn, Rodeway Inn, and Motel 6 are in that immediate area. Plus more hotels pass the overpass.

Those might be budget priced, but that is one of the biggest collections of hotel rooms in the area.
