We would not be stuck with JP had he got bounced in 1st round of AAC torny

I took a Crud Load of bashing over my post and it was even moved by the Mods AFTER we won our 1st game

many on the board got emotionally charged after beating Tulsa

Then we beat Tulane (wow)

Make the championship game and now we are stuck with Pastner for who knows how long

We had to lose the first or second round game for the admin to be forced to do whatever it took to make a change.

I'm as big of fan as anyone on this board and actually donate money with no benefit since I no longer live in Memphis for upgraded tickets etc

I never root for us to lose but in the one instance of this years torny we needed to lose to Tulsa for a change to take place

I for one would gladly give up one loss to have a fresh start with a coach who can work the Memphis crowd

I'm extremely disappointed in being forced to endure more Pastner years but IT IS WHAT IT IS...

For those who bashed me and the mods who moved the 90+ reply topic I would love to hear honest feedback:

If you knew then what you know now would you still bash the idea of needing to lose the 1st round game for JP to have moved on?

Getting to the finals gave him more fire power to fight the dismissal. Much less giving in on any type buy out.
We still have no idea if it would have mattered. Get Rudd to post here and confirm your theory and we got something to discuss.
I doubt the President of the University of Memphis is going to come over to csnbbs.com to back up Pastner4Prez

We had lost so many games the last 2 months of the season that a quick bounce would have made the decision a no Brainer

Making the finals changed everything
this decision was not made for basketball reasons, everyone knows Josh can't coach, and that next year will be a joke, this is part of a bigger play.
I don't care if it got Pastner another year or not rooting for the Tigers to lose is asinine

Ding...Ding...Ding we have a winner
Pastner would still be coach here if he won zero games. That contract is his life raft.

I read your words but I don't see how, in the greater scheme of things 1 to 1.5 M per year (cost of a new coach) is a difference maker. If the athletic program is really that close to the edge then I don't see this bigger play.

All about the Big 12

This. Would not have mattered one bit if he lost in the first round.
I agree, they were going to keep him no matter what because of the underlying issues that we obviously know NOTHING about. I hate it as much as anyone that wants a new coach but I'm gonna be a little ticked off if and when this Big12 crap slips away and our basketball program is where our football program used to be and we are stuck with a VERY dismal program and nothing to offer a coach at that time.
Go Tigers!

That is incorrect.
COACH Pastner is way more of a floor coach than our last coach.

You're right. Real coaches mop the floor with him all the time.

You post it. Someone reads it and mentions it to a friend who mentions it to another couple of people. Tomorrow one of them will post it as something someone heard from a "reliable source." That seems to be how this works.

Ha this is great!!
Are you people going to whine for whole year just like last year? Fess up not a one of you knows squat. The guy will be the coach until he is not the coach. Whining will get you nowhere.

Who's making you read it? You're whining about the whining.

But no, like a good case of diarrhea, the bitching and anger over keeping Clown Show will run it's course and we'll all move on.

It was just announced yesterday afternoon and in YESTERDAY AFTERNOON, right?

So, roughly 24 hours does not equal a year.....I don't know how you guys measure time up in Canada so maybe it's different up there.

But wait, there's still assistant coaches to hire; a 'great' recruiting class to talk about, Dedric going pro or not, and probably some transfers out of the program.

No, I imagine that there will be a whole lot more basketball related subject matter to discuss other than what an apparently terrible decision it was to keep Opie for another year.

I'll get back to you tomorrow.

Very insightful.
This thread makes me crave maple syrup.
