Former President Lula created a scam with government owned Petrobas, and they created a scheme to rig contracts at wildly fabricated pricing,
scammed a few billion, laundered the money.....................but some got busted. In this move the former President pretty admits yeah I did but going to make it hard for you to prosecute me. The sitting President is just as bad. They need to be hung on the public square.

RIO DE JANEIRO — Faced with multiple corruption investigations, Brazil’s former president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, is joining the cabinet of his successor, Dilma Rousseff, in a move that may offer him increased legal protections but intensifies the political upheaval in Latin America’s largest country.

Mr. da Silva, 70, will become Ms. Rousseff’s chief of staff, said Afonso Florence, the leader of the governing Workers’ Party in the Chamber of Deputies.

Mr. da Silva, a founder of the Workers’ Party and its most towering figure, is thrusting himself into a government that is lurching from one crisis to another. The economy is reeling from a bad slump and major corruption scandals. Ms. Rousseff is struggling for her own political survival, with protesters demanding her ouster and lawmakers pursuing impeachment proceedings against her.

“Vested with the unprecedented function of a de facto prime minister, Lula will oversee an act of political desperation to save what’s left of his project,” said Igor Gielow, a columnist for the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo.

The move could offer Mr. da Silva some practical protection as prosecutors seek his arrest in a graft inquiry involving his ties to giant construction companies. Cabinet ministers are among the 700 or so senior officials in Brazil who enjoy special judicial standing, meaning they can be tried only by Brazil’s highest court, the Supreme Federal Tribunal.
This is probably going to fan the flames of civil unrest even more.
Isnt the Olympics in Brazil this year?

Maybe. I would imagine that the IOC is scrambling around for a backup just in case.

Do you think its too late though? I mean the Olympics are in about 5 months or so.

It would have to be a place that has most all of the facilities already in place. London, maybe. Sydney still has a lot of its Olympic Park in place, but I don't think you can fit a track into the reconfigured footprint of Telstra Stadium. Maybe you could do track at Melbourne, as I'm pretty sure MCG would have enough room. US could probably host in a pinch if venues were spread out a bit. IOC doesn't like to do that, but might not have a lot of options. Brazil could literally be in massive civil unrest by Olympics time.

The situation of Olympians having to swim and compete in filthy, polluted waters has been a huge issue for a while. I wouldn't go down there and compete in that mess.

Thats crazy, give me a hazmat suit if they want me to get into that water.
And this is why you don't put the Olympics in three world countries. Instead, the IOC bowed to political correctness and a desire to have all continents host. Damn the standards, instead decide on feelings.

I think they bowed to $$$$ under the table. They're as bad as FIFA who seems to remain content to have the 2022 World Cup in a corrupt state like Qatar, who uses slave like labor to build their stadiums.

they like holding them in these countries for the cash homie.
Though it was going to be a picture thread.
I think the rowing events get the worst of this Olympics locale. Concerns about air quality? Check. Concerns about airborne insects? Check. Concerns about the water? Check.

Nah. I've got about as high of a hazmat certification you can have without a chemistry degree and a couple hundred hours of real world hazmat response experience, including making a rescue in a septic tank and I'm not volunteering to go in that water.

Agree, wholeheartedly. But people bathe, swim and I guess brush their teeth in that **** every day.

Now, we should have our best athletes swimming and diving in that schit. (literally).

no thanks, killary, bern, castro, chavez and fellow socialists... Ya'll suck! 02-13-banana
