Harbaugh and the Wolverines were the first...now Ohio State...fully expect James Franklin of Penn State, Mark Dantonio of Michigan State and for my take even Bob Petrino at Louisville doing this...the SEC is going to go off...

"I think it's creative," Meyer told Sara Perlman of WUFT-TV. "I'm looking into it for next year and maybe the future, too. It's creative and if it's good for the players, we'll probably do it."

Meyer said he was concerned about taking away spring break for the players, which has been expressed elsewhere.

Perlman posted the video on her Twitter account on Tuesday, but it appears the interview may have taken place on Saturday as Meyer played in Tebow's golf event in St. Augustine, Florida.

BC and Syracuse need to practice in New Jersey ASAP!
Pitt should try Eastern Ohio.
VT should set up camp in Washington, DC
UNC should hold a camp in Charlotte
Clemson should test the waters in Atlanta
FSU is already doing Orlando!

If you can afford to do it why not...if anything if I'm Alabama I would do a camp in Texas...Notre Dame either in Florida or California.
Even Memphis is doing it. They camped last year in Birmingham and Nashville and have spring scrimmages this year in Nashville and at their campus in Jackson. Smart moves.
How long are these off-campus camps for spring? A week, one day? I imagine it can not be for the whole spring practice since it would take away the time the player would need to be in the class room.

NCAA can easily do away with this by making a rule a player can not miss class time for travel in during Spring Practice. However I see no problem with the team have their Saturday scrimmage somewhere off campus. East Carolina could really do one in Raleigh, Charlotte, Wilmington, Fayetteville, or Virginia Beach.
A reasonable rule might be to restrict practice to within the same state.
As long as kids aren't missing classes and a school can afford it, the location of spring practices should be completely laissez faire with no restrictions. Have them in Florida, Texas, Hawaii, Alaska or any other state that any school sees fit. I don't even understand why this is even an issue.* To paraphrase Allen Iverson, "We're talking about PRACTICE."

(* Now, I understand why it's an issue to the SEC because they are attempting to protect what they believe is a geographic advantage, but I don't see why any conference other than them should care whatsoever.)

The way around it is schedule it doing that school Spring Break..."Most colleges are having their Spring Practice" fall within their Spring Break schedule anyway.

Myself would love to see Louisville do one year in Florida...then Georgia and Alabama on a rotating basis.

If this IS allowed to continue - and everyone ends up doing it as I suspect they will if it isn't banned - then it will eventually erode the geographic advantage enjoyed by SEC schools (plus Texas schools, California schools, and the Southern-most ACC schools).

Great, if true (which I really doubt).

Yeah, doubtful that the spring-break camps would be much help.

What would be far more valuable is playing a regular-season game in one of these top recruiting areas and taking advantage of the local attention you can get in the entire week leading up to the game. Of course Notre Dame already does that every year.
Current ACC and SEC rules prohibit this practice, along with "guest coaching" at other school's camps.
My recruiting approach would be "If you thing Spring is awful in Ohio & Michigan, try living there in the Fall & Winter"

I don't know why it would be great, but I don't think it will cause serious exodus of talent. Offers of playing time, competitiveness and great coaching will have greater appeal than spring break practices in the South.

I don't see the big deal. At best, the northern schools would get a little publicity to showing up in the recruiting neighborhoods but it isn't like they'd be playing all their games down south, or even more than one or two a year. It may get the northern schools in the door to a prospect's house that they otherwise wouldn't but I don't see a mass exodus of talent and I don't think this threatens the southern schools. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't try to fight it tooth and nail if I were a Florida, Georgia, Texas, Alabama, Louisiana, or other southern school.

Agree I can't wait for UCF to do their spring practice in cancun or Las Vegas for the week. I'm holding out for them to do it in the Bavarian alps before I go and watch.

I doubt that week has any real lasting effects. Its "cool" now, but a week in Florida doesn't change the winters in Michigan or Ohio.
