Seattle? They are ranked 296 by KenPom, and have records of 14-16 and 7-7. They lost to UT Rio Grande Valley, who has a KenPom rating of 347!!!!! There are only four teams rated worse than the team Seattle lost to on the road by 10 points!

Seattle??????

Apparently, it doesn't matter what your record is. They paid. They play. They even host a game.

Which is why these tournaments need to go away.

Yep. Complete trash. Just expand the nit to 64 and be done with it.

Or expand the NCAA to 96 and keep the NIT at 32. I'm not in favor of watering down the NCAA's to 96. Just throwing out a thought.

The thing is, I'm not so sure that you water it down by expanding to 96. Several teams in the NIT field would have a chance to make a run in the NCAAs.

I'm okay with that too. I have always been okay with that. My only demand would be they started putting floors on what teams have to do to get in.(i.e. No rpi higher than x can get in, no team worse than 8-10 in conference can get in, no team with an rpi of x can get in. I don't want to see 32 more power 5 teams get in. Also, make the round of 96 it's own weekend. Don't give the 32 highest seeds a team that just played in the same arena two days before)
Good ideas.

You know, even with 96 teams in you only have roughly 30% of D1 teams that can go...as opposed to more than half getting a postseason in football.

Of course, I'm totally discounting the pay for play tourneys as a postseason.
96 is to many. The NCAA should be about finding a champion. The 60th team likely has no shot of winning a championship much less the 96th.

If anything, if you want the tournament to be the purist form of championship, reduce the NCAA to the 32 best teams following strict criteria. No eye test no auto bids no traditional powers.or concern about conference affiliation

Expand the NIT to 96 or even 128 and all regular season and tournament winners get automatically unless they are in the NCAA.

The NCAA remain big because it decides the champion and it has the best teams. The NIT gains stature because of its size, because it will have a lot of good big names, and there will be plenty of big vs smallteams Cinderella stories.

Just an idea. Don't even know if I like it but it would be interesting.
With the parity in basketball, I think it makes sense to include more teams in the NCAA, with the higher seeded teams receiving byes for the first round or two. You run the risk of watering down the tournament, but it's a fairer system since the bubble teams have a chance to prove their mettle.
