They had great RPIs on both lists.

Monmouth played them and held their own. Syracuse lost 3 times to Pittsburgh!

Big Deal Cuse lost to Pitt 3 times...they beat TAMU, Duke, UConn, Notre Dame. Monmouth should've got in over Tulsa not Cuse.

And they lost to St. John's and as Doug Gottlieb said no one who loses to St. John's deserves to make the tournament.
A bracket "leaked" on twitter 4(!) hours before the selection show. Games were still being played. Most assumed the leak was a hoax.

Then the first bracket was revealed 4 hours later and it was verified. It turned out 100% correct and many tuned out of the selection show.

I believe this is the first time it's ever happened. It will be fascinating to watch whether a lawsuit results from this. No doubt CBS lawyers are investigating.

And Monmouth lost to 3 teams as bad as SJU.

Was Rutgers even in the Top 5 of college basketball teams in NJ?

Seton Hall, Monmouth, Princeton, NJIT, Fairleigh Dickinson, St Peters

And that has what exactly to do with Syracuses resume? Can't be a knowledgable fan because my alma mater is a dumpster fire? My team has been in some pretty good BBall leagues so I've seen what tournament teams look like.

Usually one has to revert to smoke and mirrors (twice with UConn fan and now RU fan) when they lack confidence in their argument.

And "future former!" (Texas)

A&M made their SEC move... You best believe that Texas is not going to be outdone if they have to part with the LHN.

A&M and TU are more desperate to outdo each other than Utah-BYU.

CBS deserved it, they were prolonging that selection show like crazy....
I know Syracuse was without their coach for nine games due to NCAA violations. But Jim Boeheim brought those on himself. Syracuse should not be excused for that.

Syracuse at 72- worst one ever to make the tourney....
with 7 others in the 51-71 range to make the tourney at large....
Monmouth was out with an RPI of 29. Twenty-frickin'-nine.

wrong. Monmouth's RPI is 52.
I was going by what CBS showed on TV. It could have been another team, but someone got left out with a Top 30 RPI.

Per realtimerpi.com, the best RPI teams (other than those not eligible) that were left out were Saint Mary's (37), Princeton (38), and San Diego State (40). The top-rated kenpom.com teams left out were Saint Mary's (34), Valpo (36), and SDSU (43).

I think BPI is a more accurate indicator than RPI because BPI factors in the score margin. Syracuse is an extreme case because their RPI is 72 but BPI is 41.

I'm pretty sure it's going to be he hits time actually.
Usually the committee rewards/punishes teams heavily based on their away record, but they gave Vanderbilt a complete pass. Looking at Vanderbilt's only five wins away from home:

Florida - RPI 55
Tennessee - RPI 145
Wake Forest - RPI 159
Auburn - RPI 175
St. John's - RPI 246

Compared to Monmouth's top 5 away wins:

Notre Dame - RPI 31
USC - RPI 51
Iona - RPI 77
UCLA - RPI 102
Siena - RPI 104

St. Bonaventure's top 5 away wins:
St. Joseph's - RPI 21
Dayton - RPI 22
Buffalo - RPI 91
UMass - RPI 170
Fordham - RPI 176

Vanderbilt's wins against tourney teams:
#3 Texas A&M - at Home
#4 Kentucky - at Home
#13 Stony Brook - at Home

Monmouth's wins against tourney teams:
#6 Notre Dame - Neutral
#8 USC - Neutral
#13 Iona - Away

St. Bonaventure's wins against tourney teams:
#7 Dayton - Away
#8 St. Joseph's - Neutral
#8 St. Joseph's - Home
#14 Buffalo - Away

Record against RPI Top 150:
Vanderbilt - 9-12 (2 wins away from home)
Monmouth - 10-4 (8 wins away from home)
St. Bonaventure - 10-6 (3 wins away from home)

I'm assuming that Vanderbilt got in based on the Kentucky and Texas A&M wins - I see nothing else in their profile that stacks up.
Whatcha think? Syracuse's profile compared to Long Beach State.

The Head of the selection committee said it wasn't a factor...you gotta take him at his word.
ONLY group LBSU is ahead: the 51-100 group, they're markedly behind everything else.

The selection committee chair should be investigated if this is true....

Someone tweeted this, not sure if it's true but if it is, I think someone should lose their Chairman position considering Tulsa was like in 0 of the 50 something projected brackets.....

@dandakich Tulsa AD is good friends with head of selection committee, and hired him at Missouri for his first job, that's why they're in

Haha, this is what one of their players said before the selection...

LBSU also had the #1 non conference SOS. They can only do so much since they're not in a power conference. To go 7-8 vs the top 100 with a top-25 win is commendable. I felt they were a better comparison vs Syracuse than some bubble teams because of that.

LBSU ended up earning an at-large bid to the NIT. So there is some consolation.
