The Monarchs really are a tough team to score on. Not a sexy part of the game but man are we good at this part. Today, we simply have to keep Stith and Taylor out of foul trouble and on the court. It starts with defense and rebounding with us. When we have our "A" squad we can beat many, many folks. Talley,Stith,Taylor, Bacote and Freeman. And as an aside, it sure is great to see Bacote bringing it! We are a very good team when he comes to play and compliments Freeman outside. Two headed monster .
I watched the Marshall vs. UTEP game last night. There was very little defense played. Almost every three pointer jacked up was an open shot. I have grown to appreciate the effort put forth by our guys in playing the style of defense they play. I'm sure it takes a lot of hard work, and preparation, but the rewards are clear. The great thing about it is playing that kind of defense can be a constant.
While we have a chance over the next two days to save the season many of us had hoped for or expected, regardless of what happens, the one thing you can't take away from these kids is their willingness to compete and give effort. The defense has been phenomenal recently, and I wholeheartedly believe we can win the next two days, but no matter the result, I'm proud of these guys and I'm proud to be a Monarch!
And as another aside. Just got to thinking. I wonder if ole Blaine is looking at this squad with sort of a wry smile saying "damn, that's my style, these guys play great defense". Not to mention our rebounding prowess. Very impressive .

Win,lose or draw, I'm very proud of these guys for not giving up on the season. Lots of character here.
The defense gets a lot of the credit, but the offense also score over a point a possession. We have a great shot of winning anytime that happens for us.
Defense is the star for sure. But I also saw great ball movement. Poise during a pretty solid press. They adjusted to the 1.3.1 after they got caught off guard the first couple possessions. They started picking it a part and forced them out of it. Good stuff.
