Illinois just hired Garrick McGee away from Louisville as OC. Seems that Lovey Smith recruited him out of high school and they have stayed in touch. Illini have a big sugar daddy throwing them a lot of money. You'd think they'd find a better way to spend it.

Good luck with that.
Louisville to Illinois seems like bad career move
He was the 19th highest paid assistant, and I doubt that he made that move without getting a raise. He might get to actually call plays at Illinois. We all know he doesn't under Petrino. Shad Khan (who owns the Jacksonville Jaguars) is dumping money into Illinois, and he's richer than T. Boone Pickins.
Any move away from Petrino is a good move.

I'll have to agree. That, and it's likely McGee is getting a raise and will be an integral part of getting the offense running since we know Smith is going to be all about some Cover 2 all day, every day. More money + more autonomy is hard to turn down.
Can we get Illinois on the schedule
As much as everybody on here hates jox, the guys on the round table were bashing McGee yesterday. They said he slept walked through a year and was stealing a paycheck. They also said they heard he was really lazy.
That seems fishy
His first chance to be a real OC. Poor Lovie. At least he won't have the power to call an on sides kick. LOL
Or kick off in both halves.
It's a bad move, because Petrino is seemingly the only coach willing to provide an environment for McGee that allows him (McGee) to mask his inability to coach and his utter laziness. Outside such a carefully structured situation, McGee is a complete dumpster fire. I suspect that Lovie, who has deficits in his own coaching abilities, will be expecting McGee to do more than sit around, play on Twitter and recruit, which is all McGee is good for. We all know how that will go.

I suppose McGee feels like it's about time for him to test the waters at being a real coach again outside of Petrino's tutelage. He should probably freshen up his understanding on...

1) the rules of the first possession coin toss
2) NCAA paperwork
3) player relations (engaging in ego feuds with star players)
4) media relations (calling them inappropriate nicknames)
5) fan relations (message board reading)
Ok, I'm in an internet debate with someone who thinks I'm being too hard on McGee. Who was it that we were playing when we kicked off twice, and do you remember what he was PO'd about? Who was it that we played that he either ran or passed damn near the entire game?

Getting old isn't bad - you learn something new every day. Only problem is that you forget five more, and sometimes what you learn is something you already knew. :)

Thanks.
Was it not MTSU in regard to your third question? He ran every single play of the first half IIRC. It was out of spite.
Didn't that happen at Troy as well? Old timers got me as well

Correct & only 6 passes whole game IIRC. I think the story goes along the lines that some boosters/fans were saying why don't we run more w/ the backs we had so just to spite them he did just that
This is very sad news.

I was hoping he'd end up at Tuscaloosa.

Given how much he was making to carry a clipboard, I'm not so sure. Somewhere other than with Petrino, he might be expected to, you know, coach.
