Pleasantly surprised this morning with Wally's nice article on the Trojan's. Sure he still refers to the team only as UALR but get past that. It is a good article and something we needed for these last 3 home games to help push attendance. Also Troy Schulte had another fine article. Hope Wally shows up at one or more of the final 3 home games. If I see him I will definitely thank him for the article and hope for more.
Overall it was a nice article but it pains me when he refers to marketing gimmicks.
I don't think he talked about a gimmick this time. He just said the best marketing tool available to attract fans to the Jack Stephens Center is winning , which they have been doing often this season.

Today's column is about as close as we will ever get to Hall admitting he was not only wrong about the Beard hire, but that he was also wrong in his criticism of Chase for doing it. As Hall would never admit to being wrong, it will be next year, at the earliest before the ADG does the right thing and calls Little Rock what it wants to be called. However, today's column and story are a good step in the right direction!
It's probably difficult for Wally to write positives about our program, but give the man credit. He stepped up this morning and did a good job with the article. Maybe the "Little Rock Trojans" will gradually make it into his vocabulary.

Wally won't admit to those things because his memory isn't that good and he doesn't remember saying them. If he did, he would have remembered back in December right after the Tulsa win he said on the radio that Tulsa wasn't a very good teaM. Today he says Tulsa is a quality win.
I am ok with using UALR and Little Rock interchangably in the local press because it recognizes both the identity with the city yet still nods to the local vernacular of UALR. Much like the Tulsa World uses both Tulsa and TU. Wally can do the same if and when he is ready. I still refer to UALR when talking to those not familiar with the branding and then bring them up to speed but I don't get dickish about insisting they confirm and conform. Remember, if Chasse were to leave us the next AD could switch it back.
If it weren't for Wally's petty motivation, I would have no problem with it. There is a difference between using UALR locally and using it in the national context of college basketball. If someone in Charlotte, NC says "Charlotte," you do not automatically assume they are talking about a basketball team. Same with Little Rock. So for local people to realize that the local paper is talking about "The Trojans" instead of the City Council, they may have to use UALR.
Great article. Says all the right things about Coach Beard and the program. No complaints except his refusal to call us what we want to be called.
I'll cut him no slack. He's a prick and always will be. He's a grad of UALR and should be doing his part to patronize and support the team every chance he gets. I suspect he was told to go to the meeting, especially since he already had a reporter there. Why did it take a Chamber of Commerce meeting to get him to write a column about the Trojans? He writes regularly about a sub .500 SEC team. I don't hold it against him for being a fan of the hogs, but he should be supporting his alma mater and the home town team. Let's see how long it takes for him to write another column about the Trojans.
I thought today's column is a good start and I hope for better days

I know he helps with the over 50 crowd but my kids have never heard of him . My son is a college athlete in state and no one on his team has ever heard of him either. Totally irrelevant to the next 2 generations.
I'm surprised they don't even read the sports page.

My "kids" are now 25 and 30. Neither ever looks at a paper. All the folks, a little older than me, have retired from our psychology department at the hospital. Most of our staff are under 40, and I am the only one that brings a paper to work. I'm pretty sure none of them gets one at home. But, all that being said, the editor of the LR paper should still support the LR team.
