If i get bored tonight at work I might look thru and see if I can find those old threads, he was pretty much a tiger 'lock' from his posts lol.

I liked Green a lot more then Lee but they were both streaky and going to leave on their own anyways, so this wasn't a bad thing imo.

Interminator

Yesss! Good times haha...

Remember all the crap with the kid who was going to Arizona and then wasnt, etc...? Chris, something...

Those were the days when recruiting was fun.

No kidding. I think it might be pretty fun. I didn't know we had Birdman now. I saw the ESPN ticker go by on Born Ready.
Throw in Hairston and Chalmers, and nobody is going to ever bow up on this team

So true, we haven't made a good draft pick since we got Pau Gasol and Battier

With the 4th pick of the 2007 draft the Grizzlies pick Mike Conley. Took awhile but it was a good pick. Heisley and Tony Barrone aren't here anymore so I would feel better about drafting. This is a lottery protected pick so it would be hit or miss anyway. The most valuable part of it is that it is an asset that they can use to maybe get an better pick or player.

Disagree - they just haven't developed the draft picks.

Arthur was serviceable and Lowry and Carroll have had success elsewhere.

Etc.

Now, they may have missed on a much better player than they drafted, but they've had some decent drafting - just not good developing. For whatever reasons, these guys play better elsewhere than they did at Memphis.

To everyone above saying they draft good....

Hasheem Thabeet cancels out any okay pick they have made

It wasn't this regime.
And that was a Heisley pick.

Yeah, Heisley pretty much overruled everyone on that pick. If you remember Thabust refused to work out for the Grizz and his agent told them not to select him. Well, that's all iron Mike needed to hear. Remember when Portland told the rest of the NBA not to pickup Darius Miles after a couple of inactive years since it would cause a salary cap hit against the Blazers? That's all Heisley needed to hear. Welcome to Memphis Darius Miles.
I forgot about that

Thabeet's agent didn't tell the Grizz not to draft Thabeet. And he was probably held out of the workout so the Griz wouldn't see he was a bust.

Jerry West and Tony Barone in Heisley's ear was the reason Thabust was drafted.
The Thabeet pick was brutal. Then they made it worst by trading another first round pick plus Thabeet to Houston for a Battier rental.

If we drafted Harden or Curry(and developed them) there would be at least one championship banner hanging at the Forum right now
Born Ready gonna suit up tonight against those Velociraptors. Gonna be a tough game.

I would say there may be a greater argument that the Grizzlies give up on draft talent too early/dont let them develop than there is about drafting poorly. Especially with later round picks and 2nd rounders.

Yep.

Pera should've cleaned house and hired some Spurs organization guys.

He did but then he ran him off because he was too controlling

Looking back at each draft, the Grizzlies have suffered from some bad positioning and one really bad pick in 2009. But, what really sticks out is how many mediocre players get drafted each year. There are only a couple of real game changers in each draft - except unfortunately in 2009 where you had 3-4. Thabeet was a terrible pick, so everyone looks good in comparison, but we really only missed on Harden and Curry as franchise type players.

It really does show how hard it is to build a team through the draft. What the Warriors have done is amazing, and the Spurs did a good job finding pieces in the later first round ( getting first David Robinson and then Tim Duncan with #1 picks doesn't count as successful drafting as much as it counts as good luck). OKC also got lucky that Durant was the same year as Oden, that the Grizzlies didn't need a pg the next year and they get Westbrook, and the Grizzlies didn't need a sg the following year and they get Harden.
