...president Santa Ono talked to former Kansas State president John Wefald, who told Ono that if Cincinnati wanted to get to the Big 12, it may have to make a short term revenue cut...

Later in the email, Wefald said: “The only way I see to get Cincinnati into the Big 12 is this: that UC and the 2nd school would have to volunteer to take the financial haircut yourselves. Why? Because the three major networks will never add enough monies to allow the next two schools to have the same revenues as the 10 to (sic) now.”
While our president is still Ray Watts.
Are we proactively doing anything to position ourselves for an AAC bid should Cinci leave?

Yes, we are destroying programs and not funding coa and still have watts as our president. We also have an ad that has truly endeared himself to the fan base. The funny thing is by the time all is said and done, something resembling cusa 2.0 is probably going to be what we ultimately hope we are in.

I continue to suspect that a factor in getting FB back was that C-USA made clear UAB would be dropped, and Dr Watts didn't receive any interest from suitable (or ANY) BB leagues stating a desire to sign up the BOT's stepchild. While he was willing to take heat for killing the FB program, he didn't want to risk being known as the President who killed the whole D1 Athletic Department.

I want to stress that I don't have any insight, but I disagree. I'd make the argument that they actually wanted that to happen.

Acting off the basis that he acted alone in pursuit of his vision for UAB, he didn't care about conference or even athletics at all. He saw a money sink and wanted to turn the facet off. We could have dropped a division and he wouldn't have cared. I feel like what ultimately made him cave was when he abruptly realized that a lot of the people he antagonized would be done with UAB as an institution and that a lot of those big donations and initiatives would go up in smoke.

If he was merely doing the bidding of the board, then, instead of Dr. Watts, it was them that realized their mistake. The potential of it becoming a wildfire consisting of burned bridges and charred business interests was much too dangerous an affair for an entity that conducted shady business practices to begin with.

Getting back on topic, I feel like Cincinnati is a lock for moving up. If we rank the schools outside of the power conferences over time, Cincinnati would likely be near the top in a lot of the important criteria. The big issue is determining who else is going with them. Houston, Memphis, BYU, UConn, and even the Florida schools all have good arguments for them moving up.

Good points and certainly a sound premise. We both feel certain that watts did not act on UAB FB just on his own volition, so your scenario makes good sense.
