I'm on my way to Los Angeles right now to cheer for Becky as she competes in the USA Marathon Olympic Trials. NBC will have LIVE coverage of both races, starting at 12 noon CST. The women's race starts at 12:23.

I predict that Shalane Flanagan will get one of the three spots. Desiree Davila has training well, but I can't be quite as confident with her. Becky is one of about 15 "others" who could make it on a great day. But, there are plenty of good runners in that category, including two Ethiopian-born runners.
Awesome! I'll be sure to tune in. In related news, here is a piece from the New Yorker on 44 year-old Kevin Castille from Lafayette, La. is the oldest man to ever qualify for the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials. If that wasn't enough, he dealt crack cocaine throughout his twenties and ended up spending a few years in jail as a result.

Enjoy. Abnormally warm out here right now - has been 85+ at our house in South OC all week.
There will be a watch party at the Gorgeous Gael in the Village.
40 minutes in ... how is Becky doing? (We're jumping in and out.)
Can't find a working tracker, but she appears to have been on about a 6:20 pace through mile 21.
2:52:35 in 85th place. Not Becky's day.
Sorry for the late posting. It's been a hectic day. Afterwards, we had a get together for Becky, and some Owls were there, including Allison Pye, Claire Shorall and Shannon Moran. The deal is that Becky developed a stitch (bad cramps) in her side just after the 10K mark. She had to slow until they subsided, but after that, it was too late to get back into her normal rhythm.

But, the way Cragg, Flanagan and Linden (nee Davila) ran today, it made no difference. Those three, and Kara Goucher, are head and shoulders above the other Americans.
